● The majority of our clientele are small businesses and individuals.

● We are seeking a Legal Assistant to join our growing team to support our expanding real estate practice (80%) and litigation (20%)

Position Overview: This role focuses primarily on real estate transactions and conveyancing matters. Day-to-day tasks include preparing real estate documents, managing property transactions, coordinating with clients and realtors, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring smooth closings. You'll work directly with our lawyers to handle residential and commercial real estate matters from start to finish. While your primary focus will be on real estate, you may occasionally be asked to assist in other practice areas as needed.

Responsibilities:

● Assist our lawyers in preparing and managing real estate transactions, including purchase and sale agreements, mortgages, and title documents.

● Handle real estate conveyancing from initial instructions through to completion and post-closing matters.

● Manage and organize real estate files with meticulous attention to detail, ensuring adherence to firm protocols and legal deadlines.

● Coordinate with clients, realtors, mortgage brokers, and other parties involved in real estate transactions.

● Prepare land titles documents, transfers, and related real estate documentation.

● Conduct title searches and review title documents for potential issues.

● Efficiently coordinate property closings, ensuring all documentation is complete and accurate.

● Interact professionally and courteously with clients, realtors, and external stakeholders throughout the transaction process.

● Provide essential administrative support, encompassing data entry, file management, and document retrieval specific to real estate and litigation matters.

● Assist with litigation through document management, organizing trial materials, tracking deadlines, and client and attorney support.

● Demonstrate a commitment to professional growth.

● Required Qualifications:

● Diploma or degree in Legal Administration, Office Administration or related field.

● Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).

● Exceptional organizational capabilities, keen attention to detail, and adept multitasking abilities.

● Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

● Willingness to become a commissioner for oaths if not currently certified.

● Demonstrated professionalism, integrity, and the ability to uphold strict confidentiality.

Preferred Qualifications:

● Experience in Real Estate Conveyancing - demonstrated proficiency in handling residential and/or commercial real estate transactions.

● Experience as a Litigation assistant.

● Realtiweb - experience using this platform for real estate document preparation and management.

● Lawyer Done Deal - experience with this real estate transaction management system.

● Proficiency in real estate legal terminology, procedures, and documentation.

● Experience with Clio practice management software is beneficial but not required.

● Experience with ALTO;

● Prior experience in a law firm real estate department.

● Knowledge of Alberta real estate law and Land Titles system.
