Position Information:
The Health Records Clerk processes each chart received in the Health Record Department in a timely and accurate manner. This position assembles and scans medical records of all discharged inpatients and day surgery visits and analyzes them for deficiencies. Receives and attends to phone calls and general inquiries
Essential Job Functions:
- Retrieve discharged inpatient and day surgery charts daily from all nursing units and account for receipt of these charts
- Assemble inpatient and day surgery charts according to the prescribed order ensuring that all documents are in appropriate chronological order and the entire contents belong to that patient and encounter. Record, pack and store fetal strips in secondary storage
- Scan all inpatient, day surgery and centralized outpatient visits into digital image.
- Ensure quality control of scanned record for document quality and imaging
- Ordering of departmental supplies
Qualifications:
- Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent is required
- Preference given to applicants with experience in a Health Record Department
- -Knowledge of Cerner applications
- -Experience with the Inquiry EsOne dictation system and InVision reports
- Experience with Quantitative and Qualitative analysis of patient charts
- Experience in processing circle of care release of information requests
- Excellent organizational skills
- Excellent time management skills
- Computer skills are essential
- Excellent communication skills are mandatory
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Demonstrated ability to deal congenially with a variety of people and operate efficiently with minimal supervision
- Knowledge of filing methods, record keeping, and transcription would be an asset
- Ability to handle confidential information with tact and diplomacy
- Internal candidates must have satisfactory attendance and performance appraisal in current position.
