JOB SUMMARY
The Elections Office is responsible for the planning, implementation and administration of policies and programs for municipal elections as set out in the Municipal Elections Act, 1996, conducted to the highest standards of fairness, accessibility and accountability.
You are responsible for performing administrative activities in support of elections, by-elections or recounts delivering accessible, consistent and fair opportunities for electors while ensuring the overall confidentiality and integrity of the municipal elections process.
Assigned focus areas include:
- Staffing and training development
- Stakeholder relations and outreach
- Election operations
- Event management and logistics
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Completion of 2 year community college diploma in Business Administration or General Arts & Sciences
Minimum of 3 years of experience in a customer service role that requires understanding and applying procedures, policies, or statutes in a legislative environment
Experience in administering contracts for the procurement of voting places is an asset
Experience in the delivery of training sessions is an asset
Experience in the coordination and scheduling of personnel is an asset
CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES
Valid Ontario unrestricted G class driver's licence (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points accumulated
KNOWLEDGE
- Extensive knowledge of the Municipal Elections Act and Bill 181 along with their regulations
- Extensive knowledge of the corporation, its political and administrative structure, and decision-making procedures
- Knowledge of the City's current ward structure
- Ontario Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act 2005 (AODA)
- Knowledge of corporate correspondence practices and administrative requirements
- Knowledge of database management
- General knowledge of required hardware associated with the use of an automated voting system
- Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
- Language Requirement: Various language requirements, some positions require English only OR Bilingual competencies. Some positions require English oral, reading, and writing. Some positions require French oral, reading and writing.
- Driver's License Requirement: A valid Ontario unrestricted G class driver's license (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points accumulated. Some positions require the candidate to use their own transportation.
- You may initially be paid 95% of your starting rate of pay, in accordance with the collective agreement.
- Experience and formal training combined with demonstrated performance and ability may substitute for stipulated academic requirements.
