Principal FPGA Designer–5G Radio Development

Dell's 5G R&D team is building next-generation Open RAN Radio Units from the ground up. As a Principal FPGA Designer, you will lead FPGA architecture strategy, influence product roadmap, and drive system-level design for 4G and 5G networks. This is a leadership role where you'll mentor engineers, guide technical reviews, and represent Dell in industry forums.

What you'll achieve
As a Principal FPGA Designer – 5G Radio Development, you will contribute to the design, implementation, and validation of FPGA solutions for ruggedized outdoor radio units.
You will span multiple phases of product development in your work:
Design & Architecture - Define FPGA architecture and influence system-level design decisions. | Drive next-generation architectural investigations and proposals
Implementation - Lead development of complex RTL blocks and integration into larger systems. | Ensure synthesis, timing closure, and FPGA resource optimization
Validation & Testing - Oversee verification strategies and ensure consistent high standards. | Validate FPGA functionality at system level and across partner designs.
Collaboration - Collaborate across hardware, software, and system teams to establish top-level product characteristics. | Represent Dell in standards bodies and technical forums (O-RAN, 3GPP). | Mentor senior engineers and lead technical reviews.

Essential Requirements
- Deep expertise in FPGA design, RTL development, and verification. | Proven experience with synthesis, timing closure, and FPGA resource optimization.
- Expertise in NR/LTE/eCPRI/CPRI/PTP protocols and signal processing. | Strong understanding of 4G/5G Radio architecture and O-RAN ecosystem
- Familiarity with JESD204B/C, Ethernet, PCIe, AXI, and high-speed SERDES
- Tools: Quartus, Vivado, MATLAB/Simulink, HDL Coder
- Knowledge of UVM and advanced verification techniques. | Experience with Git/GitHub and modern version control workflows
Desirable Skills
- 10+ years of FPGA design experience with leadership in architecture and system-level design.
- Experience in high-volume wireless products and IP development. | Contributions to standards bodies or technical forums (O-RAN, 3GPP).

Compensation:
Dell is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The salary range for this position is $123,250 – $159,500 CAD.
