Position summary
This position reports to the Chief Financial Officer ("CFO"), the incumbent assists the CFO in guiding Mon Sheong Foundation's financial strategy, business planning, resource allocation, and financial reporting. Leading a team of financial and accounting professionals, the Financial Controller delivers financial expertise and analysis to operational portfolio across business units of Mon Sheong Foundation. Working closely with functional leads, the Financial Controller ensures statutory compliance to the Federal, Provincial and Municipal governments and provides financial advice and timely information to Senior Management and Board Committees for informed decision-making.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for managing all aspects of Financial Accounting and Financial Reporting of the organization.
- Provide leadership and managerial control of the Accounting team for coaching and mentoring to enhance their knowledge, experience, skills in order to provide quality support across the organization.
- Oversee operation financial performance monitoring, evaluation, forecasting analysis through monthly variance reporting, periodic analysis, and support of the Board and the Committees.
- Responsible for the statutory reporting across Federal, Provincial and Municipal Government.
- Collaborate with Functional Leads in coaching and planning financial budget, forecast and projection.
- Coordinate external audits on a timely fashion to ensure compliance.
- Develop commentary and insight in support of communications and presentation of financial report in support to Senior Management and the Board and the Committees' decision making.
- Ensure all leaders are well informed of the business funding methodology and maximize the utilization of the resources available, provide advice on the business risk and opportunity, and recommendation for improvements.
- Develop organizational policies and procedures governing the organization in enhancing internal controls and driving continuous improvement.
- Support CFO with a range of Corporate Expansion special projects and capital project reporting.
- Collaborate with external consultants to optimize the financial system and develop plans of upgrades to ensure the reliability of data developed on the Financial Statements, and improve efficiency and effectiveness of decision making throughout the organization.
- Oversee and manage any risk exposure; secure proper coverage of insurance policies based on the statutory requirement.
- Remain current with Accounting Standards for Not-for-Profits, and Ministry of Long-term care L-SAA and Funding Policies, the Retirement Homes Regulatory Authority, and all regulatory bodies.
- Any other duties as assigned from time to time.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting and Finance, and CPA (Chartered Professional Accountant) designation.
- 5 years of related experience in not-for-profit environments with in-depth knowledge on Canadian accounting standards for not-for-profit organizations.
- Strong organizational and leadership skills with attention to detail and openness to new ideas and procedures.
- High standards of accuracy and precision, highly organized.
- Articulate with excellent verbal and written communication skills in both English and Chinese.
- Ability to think creatively, highly self-driven and self-motivated.
- Demonstrated ability to take on challenging tasks and work with team members in a hands-on management capacity.
- Ability to comprehend, analyze, and interpret complex business and financial reports.
- A high level of commitment to customer service towards internal and external customers.
- Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure with a proactive approach.
- Extensive experience with MS Office software and Sage ACCPAC accounting software.
- Experience in cost analysis is an asset.
Reason of Posting: Replacement
Salary Range: $100,000 – $130,000 per annum
