The Opportunity

We are seeking a Director / Principal to lead our U.S. Tax Practice — a strategic, high‑impact role responsible for growing and managing a specialized, profitable practice that complements our core tax, assurance, estate, advisory, and wealth offerings.

You will be the Firm's senior U.S. tax expert and practice leader., . You will be responsible for the final review of compliance filings and delivering US tax advisory and planning opportunities to our clients. You will elevate technical excellence, mentor and grow a high‑performing team and strengthen our market presence. This role is ideal for a seasoned U.S. tax professional with deep technical capability, great organizational skills, commercial judgment and a passion for advising entrepreneurial clients.

What You'll Do

Client Leadership & Advisory

  • Act as the senior relationship leader for key U.S. tax clients across the firm.
  • Lead complex U.S. personal, corporate, estate, and gift tax engagements with exceptional quality.
  • Provide strategic cross‑border tax planning, risk management guidance, and proactive advisory solutions.
  • Strengthen long‑term relationships through insight, communication, and consistent delivery.
  • Manage risk and ensure compliance with IRS requirements and firm quality standards.

Practice Leadership & Growth

  • Lead, grow, and manage a self‑sustaining, profitable U.S. tax practice aligned with firm strategy.
  • Build service offerings that reflect client needs, competitive opportunities, and seasonal workflow efficiencies.
  • Drive business development and strategic service expansion.
  • Enhance the firm's market profile through networking and community engagement.
  • Oversee technology, research tools, and tax preparation platforms to ensure "best of breed."

People Leadership & Team Development

  • Hire, develop, mentor, and support U.S. tax professionals at all levels.
  • Build succession readiness and cross‑training capability across the team.
  • Lead training to bridge firm‑wide knowledge gaps and reduce business risk.
  • Foster an engaged, collaborative, high‑performing team environment.

Technical Excellence & Quality Oversight

  • Serve as the firm's senior U.S. tax technical resource and subject matter expert.

· Serve as the final review and sign‑off authority on U.S. tax filings, tax planning and technical positions, ensuring compliance with IRS rules, Circular 230, and firm quality standards

  • Oversee quality control, issue resolution, and high‑risk technical matters.
  • Educate colleagues and contribute to firm thought leadership (alerts, articles, presentations).
  • Stay current on legislative change, IRS developments, court decisions, and emerging issues.

Firm Leadership & Strategic Contribution

  • Participate in firm‑wide leadership discussions and strategic planning.
  • Lead initiatives that improve efficiency, innovation, and practice management.
  • Uphold firm governance, policies, values, and ethical standards.
  • Demonstrate financial stewardship, owner‑level thinking, and accountability.

What You Bring

  • CPA (Canada) and U.S. CPA (licensed).
  • U.S. Master of Taxation (preferred).
  • IRS PTIN holder: CAA designation considered an asset.
  • Minimum 12–15 years of progressive U.S. tax experience in public practice.
  • Expertise in U.S. personal, corporate, estate, and gift taxation (planning + compliance).
  • Proven success leading complex client engagements and advisory relationships.
  • Strong research capability with deep knowledge of precedential tax law and IRS processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to grow a practice, drive revenue, and deliver high‑quality results.
  • Leadership strengths: communication, judgment, team development, and executive presence.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with strong financial and operational acumen.
