Reporting to the Manager, Data Quality, this role plays a critical part in analyzing, validating, cleansing, and enriching Mastercard's merchant data to ensure accuracy, consistency, and reliability at scale.

This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys solving data problems, identifying patterns, optimizing workflows, and working closely with engineering and product teams to improve merchant intelligence systems.

What You Will Do
Data Quality Operations

  • Perform detailed analysis of merchant data to identify anomalies, inconsistencies, duplicates, or gaps.
  • Execute, create and enhance cleansing workflows, apply business rules, and create enriched datasets for product consumption.
  • Investigate and resolve data defects by tracing issues through ingestion pipelines and downstream transformations.
  • Validate data against defined quality standards and acceptance criteria established by the team and Business Stakeholders.

Automation & Workflow Optimization

  • Support automation of manual data quality checks using SQL, Python, and Snowflake.
  • Collaborate with Data Engineering to build repeatable validation pipelines, rule engines, and automated scripts.
  • Develop monitoring dashboards and alerts to proactively detect emerging data quality issues.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with Data Engineering, Data Science, Product, and Client-facing teams to diagnose and fix data quality issues.
  • Provide analytical insights to support merchant clustering, matching, and cleansing initiatives.
  • Participate in reviews of new features, data model changes, and ingestion upgrades to ensure quality requirements are met.

Documentation & Governance

  • Maintain clear and comprehensive documentation of data rules, workflows, exceptions, and known data behaviors.
  • Help define, refine, and enforce data quality standards, best practices, and procedural guidelines.
  • Contribute to metadata, lineage, and QA rule mapping for enhanced transparency and auditability.

All About You

  • Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Analytics, Computer Science, Statistics, or equivalent field.
  • Experience in data quality, data analysis, or data operations roles.
  • Strong expertise in SQL (Snowflake preferred) and experience analyzing large datasets.
  • Solid experience with Python for data manipulation, automation, or scripting.
  • Strong analytical thinking with the ability to identify patterns, root causes, and recommended solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to summarize complex data issues clearly.

What Sets You Apart

  • Experience working with merchant, payments, or financial data is a strong advantage.
  • Familiarity with AI/LLM-driven workflows for cleansing, matching, or enrichment.
  • Experience working with git, DBT, Airflow, or other modern data stack tools.
  • Understanding of entity resolution, clustering, string matching, or fuzzy logic techniques.
  • Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Looker, Tableau, Power BI) for monitoring dashboards.
