The Individual Learning Module (ILM) business, managed through a partnership of NAIT and SAIT, provides innovative and trusted learning resources to support trades and apprenticeship training, across Canada. With a reputation for quality and alignment to institutional and industry needs, ILM products continue to play a vital role in advancing learning outcomes and supporting educational excellence.
Reporting to the ILM Senior Manager, the Curriculum Development Lead (CDL) is responsible for leading curriculum development activities for ILM learning content, including print and digital resources. The CDL provides academic and pedagogical leadership, ensuring curriculum design and learning content reflect best practices in adult education, align with Alberta apprenticeship programs, and meet industry and institutional standards.
The role supervises and supports a team of learning designers ensuring that learning content is high-quality, relevant, accessible, and aligned with outcomes-based education principles. The CDL also contributes to strategic initiatives, process improvement, and innovation in curriculum design and delivery, while collaborating with ILM leadership and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
Team Leadership & Supervision (30%)
- Supervise, coach, and support a team of learning designers, including workload distribution, scheduling, and professional development.
- Monitor team performance and provide regular feedback.
- Manage staffing requirements, resource allocation, and project prioritization to meet deadlines.
- Participate as a member of the ILM operational leadership team to develop strategies, improve processes, and resolve workflow issues.
Curriculum Development Leadership (60%)
- Lead the design and development of ILM curriculum resources to align with Alberta apprenticeship programs, ILM strategic initiatives, and industry needs.
- Conduct needs assessments and apply evidence-based approaches to curriculum design.
- Provide expertise in outcomes-based education (OBE), curriculum mapping, instructional design, and assessment development.
- Apply Universal Design for Learning (UDL), equity, diversity, inclusion (EDI), and Indigenous Ways of Knowing principles.
- Integrate new educational technologies, digital resources, and innovative approaches to enhance ILM learning content.
- Collaborate with project teams to ensure curriculum deliverables are relevant, current, and of high quality.
Administration & Process Support (10%)
- Contribute to standardized ILM processes, templates, and curriculum development guidelines.
- Track, monitor, and report on project progress and deliverables.
- Participate in regular team and departmental meetings.
Skills & Abilities:
- Experienced in adult education theory, practice, and instructional design for both face-to-face and digital learning.
- Knowledge of the curriculum development lifecycle, including needs analysis, design, implementation, and evaluation.
- Strong skills in curriculum mapping, assessment design, and outcomes-based education.
- Ability to integrate UDL, EDI, Indigenous Ways of Knowing, and educational technology into curriculum.
- Strong writing, editing, facilitation, and consultation skills.
- Proven leadership and team management abilities.
- Project management experience, including use of digital project management tools.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365, Learning Management Systems (LMS), and online delivery technologies (e.g., MS Teams, WebEx, Poll Everywhere, Panopto).
Qualifications:
- Degree in Education, Curriculum and Instruction, Adult Learning, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
- Minimum 5 years of experience in curriculum design and instructional design for adult or apprenticeship learning.
- Experience leading curriculum teams and supervising contractors.
- Demonstrated expertise in evidence-based curriculum development and educational innovation.
- Experience applying UDL, OBE, and curriculum quality standards in learning resource development.
Applicants with education credentials earned outside of Canada should have their credentials evaluated by World Education Services or the International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS).
Remuneration: $84, $112,153.60 annually, plus a comprehensive benefits package.
