As a Recreation Program Coordinator, you will be responsible for leading, implementing and evaluating a portfolio of work that supports delivery of recreation programs and services that meet evolving participant and community needs. Primary duties include:

  • Identify new recreation program and service opportunities through research and strategy development, implementation and evaluation.
  • Develop, pilot and monitor new programs and services.
  • Build and foster partnerships or collaborations to enhance the delivery of recreation programs and services.
  • Represent section and/or business unit on internal and/or external committees.
  • Analyze service delivery environments, policies and procedures, and coordinate alignment with other relevant Corporate Policies and/or legislation related to the assigned portfolio.
  • Maintain, evaluate and revise current initiatives.
  • Mentor and coach union and non-union staff and volunteers.
  • Respond to inquiries from the public, internal and external partners and Council regarding program information and complaints.
  • Negotiate and develop contracts and agreements between internal and external groups and organizations.
  • Write business cases, grants and other funding applications.

Qualifications

  • A completed 2 year certificate or diploma in Recreation, Physical Education, Kinesiology, Education, Diversity Studies, Disability Studies or a closely related field combined with at least 5 years of related experience.
  • A valid class 5 driver's license (or provincial equivalent) and the use of a personal vehicle for business purposes is required.
  • Certification and/or experience working in 2 or more of the following will be considered assets: health and wellbeing, physical literacy, active play, adaptive programming, children and youth, volunteers, older adults; equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging; strategic planning or community building.
  • Strong critical thinking skills, demonstrated leadership and facilitation skills along with well- developed communication skills, experience in project management and the ability to work effectively with a diverse range of audiences are also assets.

Workstyle

  • This position may be eligible to work from home for at least part of the time as one of several flexible work options available to City employees. These arrangements depend on the operational requirements of the role, employee suitability, and are subject to change based on operational needs and corporate direction.

Location: 2808 Spiller Road SE

Compensation: Pay Grade 11 $ per hour

Days of Work: This position typically works a 5 day

work week, with 1 day off in each 3 week cycle.

Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week
