Lab Assistant

Purpose:
To support the teaching laboratories by providing housekeeping services, maintaining live materials and assisting the Laboratory Technicians.
Education:
High School Diploma including a Science course. Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
Experience:
Six months' related experience including washing glassware and equipment, maintaining records in a laboratory setting
Skills:
Manual dexterity
Demonstrated ability to handle delicate equipment and glassware
Demonstrated use of autoclave
Good organization skills
Ability to meet consistent attendance and reliability in performing job-related tasks
WHMIS Level I&II safety training or willingness to learn
Ability to stand for long periods and work with hands in gloves for long periods
Ability to follow instructions
Basic computer skills required
Additional Notes:
Hours of work: 8:30am to 4:30pm. Summer: Same. Requests to work overtime may occur periodically throughout the yearPeak periods for this position: January, March, August, September and early December. Vacation restriction: May be restricted due to laboratory operations during the peak periods
