This role bridges hands-on plant work, data-driven decision-making, and cross-functional collaboration with cultivation, post-harvest, and biotechnology teams.
We're looking for a scientifically curious, detail-oriented individual with a strong foundation in plant genetics or breeding, who thrives in a dynamic environment and can balance long-term planning with agile execution. You'll also provide mentorship and oversight to research assistants and contribute to the strategic direction of our breeding program.
Responsibilities:
Design and implement phenotyping trials to evaluate agronomic, morphological, and chemical traits
Establish and manage crossing blocks for trait introgression and hybrid development
Collect, curate, and analyze phenotypic and genotypic data using spreadsheets and statistical tools
Collaborate with cultivation, post-harvest, and biotech teams to align breeding goals with production needs
Supervise and mentor research assistants in daily operations and data collection
Maintain accurate records of experimental design, data, and outcomes
Contribute to long-term breeding strategies while remaining responsive to evolving project priorities
Support cannabis tissue sampling, plant care, and compliance-related documentation
Qualifications:
MSc in Plant Breeding, Genetics, Horticulture, or related field with 2+ years of relevant experience; or BSc with 5+ years of relevant experience
Demonstrated experience in plant phenotyping, breeding design, and data analysis
Familiarity with molecular biology techniques (e.g., DNA extraction, PCR, marker analysis)
Proficiency in Excel and data management tools; experience with R, Python, or statistical software is an asset
Strong organizational and communication skills, with a track record of cross-functional teamwork including supervisory roles
Knowledge of cannabis biology, physiology, and production systems is highly desirable
Ability to obtain and maintain Security Clearance under ACMP regulations
Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to shifting project goals
