Job Title: Senior Front-End / UX Designers

Location: Edmonton, Alberta (Remote with occasional onsite meetings)

Duration: 12 months (possible 24-month extension)

About the Role

Digital Design and Delivery Division (3D) is seeking experienced Senior Front End Designers to support major digital transformation, service modernization, and program review initiatives across departments. You will work within cross-functional, agile teams to research user needs, create end-to-end design solutions, and deliver modern, accessible, citizen-focused digital services.

Remote work is allowed, but you may be required to attend quarterly onsite sessions in Alberta and travel within the province for user research.

Portfolio Requirement: A personal portfolio must be attached as a file (links not accepted) & Must include samples with brief explanations of the work

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop creative, evidence-based front-end design solutions for digital services.
  • Produce design artifacts across multiple fidelities, including:
  • Wireframes, prototypes, storyboards, user flows
  • Design systems, pattern libraries, and UI specs
  • Style guides and build-ready design documentation
  • Conduct and plan design research, including user interviews and usability testing.
  • Evaluate accessibility compliance and provide remediation recommendations.
  • Present and justify design decisions to product teams and senior stakeholders.
  • Participate in all agile ceremonies: sprint planning, demos, reviews, retros, etc.
  • Analyze current services and propose improvements aligned with modern design and service-delivery standards.

Mandatory Requirements

Experience (Minimum 2 Years Each)

  • Front End Designer role designing or enhancing web/digital services
  • Developing UX artifacts: wireframes, flows, prototypes, scenarios, storyboards
  • Working in a cross-functional Agile product team

Nice-to-Have Experience (2+ Years Each)

  • Building and maintaining design systems or component libraries
  • Designing solutions for web, mobile, or complex enterprise applications
  • Applying WCAG accessibility standards
  • Working with design thinking methodologies
  • Tools: Figma, Adobe XD, Sketch, Axure, etc.
  • Experience in public sector digital offices such as:
  • UK GDS
  • Ontario Digital Service
  • BC Digital Experience Office
  • Government Digital Innovation Office

Work Location & Travel

  • Primarily remote within Canada
  • Quarterly onsite sessions in Edmonton (travel costs not covered)
  • Occasional Alberta travel for user research (arranged when possible)

Job Type: Fixed term contract

Contract length: 12 months

Pay: $95.00-$98.00 per hour
