QA Lead – Infrastructure Testing

Position:

QA Lead – Security & Quality Assurance

Contract – 6 Months +

Location - Calgary, Toronto, Winnipeg

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled 
QA Lead with strong Infrastructure Testing experience
 to lead end-to-end quality assurance for servers, networks, cloud environments, and enterprise IT infrastructure. This role requires expertise in validating infrastructure performance, security, scalability, reliability, and disaster recovery capabilities. You will lead a team of QA engineers, define testing frameworks, and ensure the stability of mission-critical systems.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & QA Management

  • Lead, mentor, and guide the QA team across multiple infrastructure initiatives.
  • Establish QA methodologies, standards, and best practices for infrastructure validation.
  • Manage test planning, execution, defect tracking, and reporting.
  • Collaborate with Infrastructure, Cloud, DevOps, Security, and Application teams.

Infrastructure Testing

  • Perform validation of on-prem and cloud infrastructure including servers, storage, networking, firewalls, virtualization, and load balancers.
  • Execute testing for system upgrades, patch management, DR/BCP workflows, and environment configurations.
  • Conduct 
    performance, scalability, failover, resilience, high availability, and capacity testing
    .
  • Validate 
    network configurations, connectivity, routing, firewall rules, and access controls
    .
  • Test cloud provisioning, auto-scaling, IAM policies, and infrastructure-as-code deployments.

Cloud & DevOps Integration

  • Work closely with DevOps to test CI/CD environments and deployment pipelines.
  • Validate containerized environments (Docker, Kubernetes), microservices, and cloud-native architectures.
  • Test reliability, observability, and monitoring systems (CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, etc.)

Automation & Tooling

  • Build and maintain infrastructure testing automation frameworks.
  • Use tools for validation such as:
  • Terraform testing frameworks, Ansible validation, Chef InSpec, Pester
  • Network testing tools (Wireshark, iPerf, SolarWinds)
  • Cloud testing tools and scripts
  • Integrate automated tests into CI pipelines.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Create detailed test strategies, infra-spec documents, risk assessments, and defect reports.
  • Provide insights on system bottlenecks and propose improvements.
  • Present QA metrics and readiness reports to leadership.

Required Skills & Experience

  • 10+ years in QA, with at least 3 years in Infrastructure Testing.
  • Strong understanding of enterprise IT infrastructure:
  • Servers (Linux/Windows), virtualization (VMware/Hyper-V)
  • Networking (TCP/IP, DNS, VPN, firewalls, routing)
  • Storage systems and backup solutions
  • Cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
  • Hands-on experience in 
    infrastructure performance, failover, DR, and HA testing
    .
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration (K8s, Docker).
  • Proficiency with infrastructure automation and IaC tools (Terraform, Ansible, CloudFormation).
  • Strong scripting skills (Python, PowerShell, Bash).
  • Familiarity with monitoring tools and logging systems.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and cross-team coordination skills.
