What will you work on?

The Senior Manager, Operations Finance plays a critical role in overseeing cost of goods sold (COGS) management, financial reporting, and internal controls related to operations finance and supply chain activities. Reporting to the Operations Finance Senior Director, this position partners closely with cross-functional teams   across Finance, Operations, Data Governance, and Internal Controls to ensure accurate financial reporting, process efficiency, and compliance with relevant standards such as IFRS. The role also involves leading and developing a high-performing team and driving continuous improvement across key operational finance processes. Additionally, the Senior Manager will provide strategic oversight and support to the SAP upgrade project, ensuring seamless integration with finance operations and timely delivery of project milestones.

How will you create impact?

ERP Upgrade Project Support:

  • Provide senior-level oversight and guidance to the Team Lead for the SAP Upgrade Project, ensuring alignment of finance operations requirements with the ERP upgrade scope.
  • Review key project deliverables related to costing, warehousing, transportation, and inventory financial processes to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Support decision-making by providing strategic insights, risk assessments, and recommendations related to project execution.
  • Monitor project progress, identifying potential bottlenecks and risks; escalate issues as needed to keep the project on track.
  • Facilitate cross-functional collaboration between finance, IT, supply chain, and external consultants to ensure smooth integration of upgraded SAP functionalities.
  • Report regularly to senior leadership on project status, risks, mitigation plans, and resource needs, ensuring transparent and timely communication.

COGS Management and Reporting

  • Lead and support the product costing process in collaboration with cross-functional and regional teams.
  • Manage SAP-based processes for target costing, standard costing, and annual cost updates.
  • Review and support analysis of Purchase Price Variance (PPV), providing actionable insights and recommendations to minimize cost deviations.
  • Analyze and monitor Other COGS variances, including inbound freight, customs duties, and warehousing impacts.
  • Partner with Data Governance, Internal Control, and Regional Finance/Operations teams to drive continuous improvement in costing methodologies and processes.
  • Working in partnership with our Technical Accounting team, ensure compliance with IFRS requirements for standard costing and related financial practices.

Financial Reporting

  • Lead the preparation and review of monthly distribution and transportation cost reports, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Oversee the month-end close process, including ensuring the completion of all required month-end close steps, review of journal entries and account reconciliations, and required financial analyses.
  • Support in-depth analysis of Gross Margin variances, working closely with commercial and supply chain partners to explain key drivers and trends.

Team leadership

  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the Operations Finance team, including 2-3 direct reports, ensuring tasks are completed accurately and on time.
  • Promote a culture of ownership, accountability, and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Foster the professional and personal growth of team members through coaching, development planning, and performance feedback.

Governance & Controls

  • Collaborate with the Internal Controls team to develop, maintain, and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Support and coordinate external audit efforts.
  • Ensure appropriate internal controls related to operations finance are in place, well-documented, and operating effectively.
  • Monitor compliance and support audit readiness for processes impacting inventory, costing, and supply chain finance.

What are your skills and experience?

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business, or related field; CPA, CMA, or MBA preferred.
  • Experience in Operations Finance, Accounting, or FP&A, preferably in a manufacturing, consumer goods, or supply chain environment.
  • Strong knowledge of SAP (CO, MM, or related modules), costing methodologies, and IFRS compliance.
  • Prior experience with ERP implementation is an asset.
  • Strong computer literacy with advanced level Excel skills (pivots, v-lookups, and advanced formulas) is required.  Experience with Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Visio, Power BI) is desirable.
  • Proven experience in leading teams and partnering with cross-functional stakeholders in a matrixed organization.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive process improvements and manage complex financial data. Creative approach to solving business issues and motivated by seeking process improvement.
  • Strong documentation skills to develop, maintain and sustain cradle-to-grave business processes SOP's (Standard Operating Procedures).

This posting is for an existing vacancy. This position requires an onsite presence four days per week.

The anticipated salary range for candidates who will work in Ontario is $125,000 to $135,000 per annum. The salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to years of experience within the job, years of experience within the required industry, education, etc. Spin Master ltd. is a multi-provincial employer, and this salary range may not reflect positions that work only in other provinces.
