Position SummaryThe Director of Marketing & Branding is a strategic, results-driven leader with a proven track record of success in omnichannel retail and the beauty industry. Reporting to the VP, Marketing and Branding, this role owns the development and execution of integrated marketing strategies, campaigns, product launches, and brand initiatives that drive growth, engagement, and customer loyalty across retail and ecommerce channels. Leading the Marketing and Creative Services teams (approximately 3–4 direct reports), the Director provides clear direction, fosters creative excellence, and ensures consistent brand stewardship, operational effectiveness, and measurable business impact.
Leveraging data and analytics to inform strategy, the Director serves as the organization's foremost expert in delivering high-performing campaigns across traditional media and leading digital platforms. Responsible for brand stewardship, this role ensures consistent visual identity standards across all channels while strengthening brand reputation and recognition. With a strong focus on operational efficiency, customer-centricity, and creative excellence, the Director guides day-to-day activities to maximize performance and results.
This is a full-time, 18-month contract position covering a maternity leave.
What You Will Do
- Analyze Chatters' position in the marketplace, including brand perception, competitive landscape, and customer insights to build brand awareness, relevance and positioning.
- Lead and create all branding material and initiatives to align with the Chatters brand and ensure compliance and consistency across the organization and its locations.
- Evaluate and develop a marketing strategy for new and existing products, services and programs across retail, ecommerce, and omnichannel touchpoints.
- Provide leadership and strategic direction to the design, development, and implementation of products and service Initiatives in partnership with cross-functional teams.
- Oversee and works hands on in the development and implementation of marketing campaigns, new launches, demand generation initiatives across digital, in-store, PR, influencer, and experiential channels.
- Oversee the strategy, planning, and execution of month-over-month in-store signage campaigns, ensuring alignment with the marketing calendar, promotional priorities, brand standards, and consistent execution across all retail locations.
- Lead the strategy, management, and optimization of third-party and strategic brand partnerships, ensuring alignment with brand objectives, marketing priorities, budget investment, and measurable performance outcomes.
- Develop and oversee strategic editorial and media partnerships, including industry, salon, and beauty publications, to strengthen brand credibility, thought leadership, and long-term awareness.
- Lead and steward charitable and community partnerships (e.g., RMHC), ensuring alignment with brand values, business objectives, community impact goals, and responsible, consistent execution across marketing and retail channels.
- Provide strategic advice and recommendations for marketing campaigns.
- Develop the annual marketing plan including strategies and tactics, and executional priorities required to achieve system-wide business and brand objectives.
- Creates an institutional and system-wide marketing report that can track, measure and analyze performance.
- Ensures all marketing communications are coordinated, support marketing plan objectives and are an effective expenditure of resources.
- Plan, lead, coordinate and communicate marketing projects from start to execution.
- Evaluate ROI on marketing projects and initiatives.
- Support execution of brand partner marketing and oversee the brand development funds.
- Oversees Public Relations strategies in partnership with agency of record including Influencer marketing.
- Develop budgets for marketing and creatives services areas with the VP Marketing.
- Plan, coordinate, communicate and execute store and community events.
- Directs the delivery of marketing and communication materials.
- Ensures consistent application of 'look and feel' among all Chatters materials.
- Identifies regular professional development needs for direct reports and ensures their ongoing development.
- A university degree, with a focus in Marketing, Advertising or Public Relations, and a minimum of ten (10) years' related experience in marketing and creative services.
- Proven experience with brand and identity management.
- Strategy development knowledge and skills.
- Demonstrated experience creating, leading and delivering a marketing plan for omni channel retail organization.
- Demonstrated experience developing, implementing and evaluating strategic marketing and advertising initiatives and plans, with an emphasis in online channels and the use of analytics.
- Demonstrated success in directing integrated and complex marketing projects involving communications, web, social media, store signage, PR and experiential elements.
- Demonstrated experience working with external vendors including agencies.
- Experience with all forms of digital media.
- Strong project management, organizational skills, communication skills, accuracy and attention to detail.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with departmental staff, co-workers and internal and external stakeholders.
- Proven supervisory experience in a setting that promotes teamwork, transparency, respect, trust and integrity.
