Description
Reporting to the Chief Project Officer, the Deputy Director plays a key role in supporting the Project Director, assisting in the management and oversight of the project. This position is responsible for helping to execute the strategic vision, which involves working cooperatively with key project leaders and functional leaders whilst also developing and ensuring adherence to departmental execution plans. The role requires a strategic thinker who can drive initiatives and fosters and thrives in a collaborative environment.
By providing leadership and guidance, the Deputy Director helps maintain high standards of performance and drives the project toward its objectives by working closely with key project peers.
Key Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
- Develop and implement strategic plans that translate the project's vision into actionable goals, including trend analysis and resource prioritization.
- Ensure alignment of project management practices with NexGen's Integrated Management System and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure that organizational and regulatory policies and procedures are adhered to in order to improve efficiency and ensure compliance.
- Oversee and ensure the daily operations of various departments align with the project's and company's strategic goals.
- Apply strong understanding of Project Controls and applicable methodologies and tools (Primavera P6, SAP, Omega 365, Power BI).
- Manage the project's budget, including financial planning, monitoring expenditures, and preparation of financial reports.
- Analyze performance data and prepare detailed reports and presentations for the director and senior management on project progress and outcomes.
- Coordinate the planning and execution of special projects and strategic initiatives as directed by the executive leadership.
- Champion a culture of performance, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Build, mentor, and manage a high-performing team.
- Set clear performance metrics, monitor progress, and provide constructive feedback.
- Facilitate communication and collaboration across teams, breaking down silos and resolving conflicts.
- Serve as a liaison between the director and department managers, facilitating effective communication and collaboration across teams.
- Engage stakeholders effectively by building partnerships, negotiating agreements, and securing support for key initiatives.
- Represent the project's interests effectively, negotiating partnerships and securing support.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
- Professional designation (P.Eng., PMP, CPA) is an asset.
- Preference for candidates with 15+ years of progressive project management experience in mining or industrial environments, working within Owners or EPCM teams.
- Extensive experience leading teams and managing complex projects.
- Experience in Integrated Project Team environments with oversight of contractor performance.
- Strong foundation in management, construction, procurement, engineering, planning, and financial oversight.
- Experience working in regulated environments or with permitting/licensing agencies (e.g., CNSC) is an asset.
