Role Overview

PIC Canada, a Genus Company, has an exciting opportunity. We are looking for a Maintenance Technician to perform hands-on repairs, maintain equipment, and recommend improvements to boost efficiency. You'll also support farm operations with barn renovations, equipment installation, and system replacements. The Maintenance Technician has primary accountability for analyzing equipment failures, troubleshooting and diagnosing problems, performing hands-on repairs, providing technical support, and documenting repairs and maintenance work, including any equipment changes. This role also supports farm operations by assisting with barn renovations, installing and assembling equipment like feeders and penning, and replacing roofing and feed systems as needed.

The position is located in our Carlyle, Saskatchewan location. The salary for this position is $24/hour CAD.

You Will
  • Create and implement action plans to ensure the achievement of the maintenance department on a weekly, monthly and annual basis
  • Assist in the development of, as well as deliver, the agreed upon budget area of responsibility which includes:

o Ordering parts and supplies

o Maintaining inventory levels of commonly used parts and supplies

o Assisting with CapEx projects

  • Maintain record keeping within all software platforms to ensure records are fully updated on a weekly basis
  • Provides technical maintenance support and guidance to employees and farm management, including but not limited to:

o Assembly and installation of feeders

o Assist with a complete demolition and renovation of required barns

o Assist in replacing full tin roofs on the barns

o Participate in a full renovation of finisher penning, which will include removing existing penning and replacing with new

o Replace current pvc feed line with stainless steel feed line

  • Responsible for seasonal rodent control through maintaining an established bait station protocol
  • Develop control systems to decrease resource waste due to systems malfunctions including feed and water
  • Accountable for weed management, including operating spraying tools and equipment to apply herbicide around complex
  • Responsible for snow removal with heavy machinery if inclement weather arises due to late springs or early winters
  • Safely and effectively operate small hand tools and hand power tools
  • Safely and effectively operate farm machinery such as ATV's, Skid Steers, or Tractors with various attachments for but not limited to renovation projects, mowing, roof repairs, or general groundskeeping tasks. The candidate must also be able to help maintain equipment before, during, and after use
  • Uses judgment to identify and resolve day-to-day technical and operational problems
  • Review production schedules by farm, systems in place, process and workflows, computer programs, and other information to understand activities that take place in farms and how they are performed by staff
  • Implement emergency response programs to farm system malfunctions and train staff to identify emergencies and response appropriately
  • Effective communication with teammates and supervisors in order to effectively achieve goals
  • Ensure adherence to the Company's animal care policies and procedures including:

o Providing a physical environment that meets the animal's needs

o Providing access to adequate water and high-quality feed

o Providing humane treatment of the animals

o Providing identification and appropriate treatment of animals in need of health care and following the guidelines for euthanasia

  • Ensure area of responsibility is accomplishing the following:

o Adherence to the Company's Safety Program requirements and guidelines

o Adhere to biosecurity protocols

o Adherence to environmental laws and procedures

o Compliance of all company policies, procedures and guidelines

o Willingness to change plans as needed

o Cleanliness and sanitation of the farm

o Compliance with all environmental laws and procedures

Requirements

Basic Qualifications: (required)

  • A minimum of one year of maintenance experience working in an agriculture or manufacturing facility
  • Driver's License with a clean background record
  • Strong commitment to teamwork
  • Willingness and ability to shower in and out of facility daily
  • Ability to follow instructions and deal with standardized situations
  • Must be able to work overtime hours per week as needed operationally on weekends, evenings, and holiday work required as needed
  • Must be located near the site or open to relocating to the Carlyle area independently
  • Authorized to work in Canada without sponsorship
