About the position

We're looking for a Senior Financial Analyst to join our finance team based in Ottawa.

This role, reporting to the Financial Reporting Manager, will collaborate with a small accounting team to ensure daily accounting transactions including AR, AP, payroll, inventory and banking transactions for three companies are processed on a timely basis. We are looking for a candidate who is a fast learner and who will learn the accounting process thoroughly so that he/she can act as the backup for the accounting team when needed. The main task for this role is to ensure the timely close of the month-end for three North America based companies, perform margin analysis on company sales, supervise AP & Intercompany transactions and own the sales commission calculation.

The accounting process is quite manual at our company.
This position requires the upmost accuracy and attention to details, as well as superb accounting skills. A written exam will be required for each applicant for this position.

This position is ideal for an ambitious financial analyst who has gained solid accounting experience and is ready to step up to take a Senior position with a potential for future growth and additional responsibilities.

Skill Sets and Qualifications:

·      Solid accounting skills and upmost accuracy are required in order to succeed for this position.

·      Ability to work in a fast-paced work environment and be able to deliver work before the deadlines. As a publicly trade company, we file financial statements every quarter. Overtime is expected at a month-end/quarter-end.

·      Great work attitude where no task is too low.

·      Expert proficiency in Excel (e.g. pivot table, V-Lookup function, data filter, etc.) is required.

Responsibilities:

·      Calculate commissions; handle all commission related inquires from sales team and senior management team; and book commission accruals on a monthly basis.

·      Supervise AP transactions posted to our accounting system including vendor invoices, credit card transactions and employee expense claims

·      Approve employee expense reimbursement process from initial claim to posting in the accounting software, including Expensify software management.

·      Prepare Canadian and US sales tax filings for the group of North American companies.

·      Process and reconcile intercompany transactions. Issue intercompany invoices for management charges, royalty charges, service charges at each month-end.

·      Prepare month-end project accrual entries and ensure General Ledger integrity by reviewing and reconciling GL accounts.

·      Ensure month-end closing process is completed within pre-set deadlines.

·      Perform margin analysis on company sales

·      Provide accounting guidance to the team on a daily basis and provide backup support when a team member is on vacation or leave or during a team transition.

·      Maintain vendor relationship and handle inquires from vendors and internal members related to payments and receipts.

·      Review daily accounting transactions entered by accounting team including AR, AP, Payroll, Inventory, and bank transactions to ensure accuracy.

·      Maintain and review our order schedule to ensure the accuracy of the order backlog information for the group of companies including updated monthly foreign exchange. Report the backlog information at each quarter-end.

·      Assist with quarter-end reporting and the year-end audits of the consolidated financial statements.

·      Assist with the implementation an ERP in the near future for the group of companies.

·      Office tasks and ad hoc projects as assigned
