Marine Fabricator/Welder
JOB OVERVIEW
Iron Fire Metalworx is a marine-focused welding and fabrication shop specializing in custom aluminum and stainless-steel solutions for boats, yachts, and commercial marine equipment. We build everything from bimini tops, solar arches, railings, engine brackets, and hardtops to full boat re-skins and complex custom components—with very few drawings, requiring strong visualization and fabrication skills.
The Fabricator will work on a wide variety of projects both in our Parksville shop and on-site at marinas and boatyards. This role combines independent project ownership with a collaborative, close-knit team environment. We use modern equipment including CNC plasma, bending systems, precision welding machines, and high-end fabrication tools. Work is steady year-round with occasional overtime opportunities.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Fabricate aluminum and stainless-steel components for marine vessels, custom projects, and equipment.
- TIG weld stainless and aluminum; MIG weld aluminum.
- Visualize and build projects with minimal drawings—interpret concepts, dimensions, and customer needs.
- Work on projects from start to finish with minimal supervision.
- Perform marine repairs, modifications, and structural fabrication.
- Use hand tools, power tools, bending equipment, and shop machinery.
- Conduct field work at marinas, boatyards, and customer sites, including mobile welding.
- Interact with customers professionally when discussing projects or installations.
- Follow Iron Fire Metalworx's ISO-based quality processes and maintain accurate work documentation.
- Work in physically demanding environments, including climbing into boats, working in awkward positions, and lifting materials.
- Maintain a clean, organized workspace and contribute to a safe shop environment.
REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum 3 years of experience in the marine industry (required).
- Strong fabrication skills are the top priority — ability to build, fit, shape, and assemble components with precision.
- Welding skills (TIG and MIG) are required but considered secondary to fabrication ability.
- Ability to independently visualize, plan, and execute custom builds with minimal drawings or templates.
- Experience working with aluminum and stainless steel in marine applications.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to unique, custom fabrication challenges.
- High attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to manage time effectively.
- Good communication skills for interacting with team members and customers.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of assigned projects.
- Valid driver's licence (required).
- Physically able to lift materials, climb into vessels, and work in tight or awkward environments.
