The Opportunity
Scott Mission is seeking a
Chief Operating Officer (COO)
to be a key enterprise leader responsible for end-to-end operations, ensuring excellence, financial sustainability, and delivery on the mission's objectives. As a core member of the Executive Leadership Team, the COO partners closely with the CEO and senior leaders to provide spiritual leadership, shape strategy, drive growth, and steward resources wisely.
The COO oversees an integrated portfolio that includes Finance, Property Management, Social Enterprise, Warehouse, Facilities, and Food Services. The leader in this role drives operational excellence and scalable growth by translating strategy into multi-year, measurable initiatives, while advancing multi-sector growth plans, strategic internal and external partnerships, and service expansion across the organization's operations.
Responsibilities
Operational Oversight
- Oversee integrated operations across Finance, Property Management, Social Enterprise, Warehouse, Facilities, and Food Services for efficiency and mission delivery.
- Drive growth strategies by identifying new opportunities, strategic partnerships, and service expansions.
- Ensure internal service excellence across all functions through consistent standards and accountability.
- Develop and implement annual operating plans, financial budgets, and performance targets aligned with enterprise-wide objectives.
- Serve as a strategic advisor to the CEO and Executive Leadership Team, aligning operations with key priorities.
- Cultivate a culture of measured excellence, building credibility with the Board, senior leaders, and staff.
- Implement standardized operating procedures, KPIs, and performance measurement frameworks.
- Provide spiritual leadership that fosters alignment with the organization's statement of faith, mission, vision, and core values.
Financial & Risk Management
- Oversee financial performance and operational budgets.
- Partner with the Finance team to drive profitability and cost efficiency.
- Identify and mitigate operational, contractual, and market risks enterprise-wide.
- Ensure full compliance with corporate governance, contracts, and industry regulations.
- Direct capital allocation for equipment, facilities, and growth investments.
- Build and maintain key relationships with partners, suppliers, regulators, and investors.
- Collaborate with the CEO and leadership team on Board reporting, investor relations, and community engagement.
Vertical Performance & Team Leadership
- Lead, scale, and performance-manage a high-capacity operations organization focused on accountability, innovation, and results.
- Develop team structures and staffing models aligned with growth goals and enterprise needs.
- Establish KPIs, dashboards, and data analytics to monitor performance and drive continuous improvement.
- Model inclusive leadership with emphasis on professional development and succession planning.

Experience & Education
- 10+ years of progressive leadership in operations, with demonstrated responsibility for multi-function portfolios (e.g., finance, facilities, programs, or shared services).
- Minimum of 5 years in a C-suite or senior enterprise leadership role with direct accountability for cross-functional performance and results.
- Proven track record leading complex, enterprise-wide operational functions in a nonprofit or closely related mission-driven environment.
- Demonstrated success building and leading high-performing teams and driving large-scale, cross-functional initiatives from strategy through execution.
- Significant experience partnering with and influencing a Board of Directors and executive peers on strategy, risk, and operational priorities.
- Deep fluency in project and operations management, including the design and optimization of processes, systems, and performance metrics.
- Strong financial acumen, with hands-on experience leading budgeting, P&L oversight, and strategic capital and investment decisions.
- Bachelor's degree in business, finance, or related field; equivalent combination of education and senior leadership experience considered
- Master's degree preferred.
Compensation, Salary, and Benefits
- Salary Range: $160,000 - $180,000
- RRSP: 6.5% match defined contribution plan
- Vacation: 5-6 weeks
Workplace Environment
This is a full-time role with the option for hybrid work of 2 days in office per week. The primary workplace being the Scott Mission HUB Distribution Centre at
5 McLachlan Dr, Etobicoke, ON M9W 1E5
.
Please note that this role may require occasional travel and work outside of regular business hours, as necessary, to fulfill organizational needs.
