Detailed Overview: Under the general direction of the Cardiology Supervisor, the Cardiology Clerk schedules outpatient appointments and performs receptionist and clerical duties. Responsibilities:

• Schedules and books outpatient appointments for assigned area(s) utilizing computerized systems by receiving appointment requests, making follow-up appointments and adjusting arrangements in accordance with patient and facility requirements.

• Performs receptionist duties such as answering the telephone, taking and relaying messages and greeting visitors to the department.

• Contacts physicians and patients to advise when appointments have been arranged and other related changes; transmits test results to physician''s offices, other hospitals and nursing units as appropriate, according to established procedures.

• Completes patient registration documentation; updates test orders, distributes patient reports to physician boxes, performs filing, photocopying and typing duties as assigned.

• As required, maintains payroll sheets for all staff; inputs hours into the payroll system; produces payroll sheets for review by the supervisor.

• Maintains inventory of office supplies and orders as required.

• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Education and Experience

Grade 12, plus two (2) years recently related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Skills and Abilities

• Ability to keyboard at 45 wpm
• Knowledge of medical terminology
• Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
• Ability to deal with others effectively
