Finance Manager
Position Summary
The Finance Manager will be a key leader in the organization, responsible for accounting and financial reporting for the retail operations and real estate portfolio. This role requires a hands-on leader with a keen eye for detail, who can optimize processes, support strategic initiatives, provide accurate and timely financial data, and provide oversight over an accounting team. The Finance Manager will report directly to the VP Finance.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Prepare timely quarterly, and annual financial statements for senior management
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of the financial close and reporting cycle.
- Oversee the preparation and documentation for the annual external audit and financial statement preparation for the various companies (retail and real estate)
- Serve as the primary liaison with external auditors.
- Manage tax filings in coordination with external tax advisors.
Real Estate Portfolio
- Manage property accounting for the company-owned real estate portfolio (e.g. property companies and retail locations), ensuring accurate balance sheet and P&L treatment.
- Oversee the financial reporting on property performance
- Lead the roll out of Yardi or other commercial real estate platform
- Partner with property team to create and deliver annual property budgets
- Lead the annual CAM reconciliation process
Retail Operations
- Work alongside VP Finance and IT to build automation and update processes
- Oversee the monthly closing processes specific to the high-volume nature of grocery retail (e.g., sales reconciliation, inventory valuation, margin and payroll analysis).
- Oversee rebates and promotional allowance tracking.
- Support franchises and the related accounting requirements
Leadership & Team Management
- Oversee an accounting team, inclusive of Accounting Manager, General Accountants, Accounts Payable, and Property administration.
- Conduct performance reviews and manage workloads.
- Establish and enforce corporate accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
Qualifications
- Direct experience with real estate or property accounting.
- A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in accounting, with at least two years in a supervisory role
- Advanced proficiency with Excel and financial reporting tools.
- Proficiency in Yardi or other commercial property platform is preferred
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA (Certified Public Accountant) designation is preferred.
