HOURS: Sites are operational 24/7. Casual/relief youth workers are needed to provide  shift coverage for evenings, weekends and awake overnights.

REPORTS TO: GLP Team Leaders and Program Managers

Through collaborations with Children's Services, Collaborative Service Delivery (CSD) agencies and their social service agency partnerships, we work towards the physical wellbeing, relationship development and preservation of the cultural as well as ethnic diversity of the young people we serve." 

Youth Workers provide direct care, guidance, mentorship and support to children and youth who reside in a group living setting. The GLP youth workers work in collaboration with Children Services and our CSD partnership programs to find permanent placements/options that best match each individual child or youth needs. The youth worker advocates for the youth in the GLP while also promoting skills that aid in self- advocacy. Note that this position is on principles as taught in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) training.

Position Responsibilities

  • Maintain a supportive comfortable atmosphere, encourage children and youth in their individuality, while complying with the policies and procedures.   
  • Attend and participate in shift exchange/ security and safety checks  
  • Provide individualized care and support for children and youth ages
  • Transport and provide support for children and youth to attend their day programs, appointments, and recreational activities  
  • Supervise children and youth in daily routines, in accordance with assigned shift   
  • Utilize Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) strategies to diffuse potential behavior escalations  
  • As required, work and provide staffing support at any GLP site.  
  • Evaluate resident's behavior through daily contact and monthly goal progress notes  
  • Ensure log books, reports and documentation is completed timely  
  • Attend staff meetings and any other meetings or training programs as directed by Management.  
  • Follow all Agency's policies, and procedures, code of conduct, shift expectations, and job descriptions   
  • Communicate with Management any concerns impacting a child or youth's safety and well-being.  
  • Administer medications to residents as required.  
  • Maintain a healthy environment by performing a variety of cleaning and housekeeping duties as required  
  • Maintain an inventory of supplies
  • BSCS is more than a workplace. It is a community where everyone helps and contributes to the whole, and there is an expectation that all employees will take part in events (during the work week and occasionally during weekends and evenings). This includes fundraising campaigns, running community meals, medicine picking etc.

Qualifications

  • Post Secondary Degree or Diploma in a relevant field of study.  
  • Minimum 1-year direct experience working in a group home with children or youth 
  • Knowledge of standard policies and practices related to group care and the ability to effectively implement daily operations as per shift requirements.
  • Police Check with the Vulnerable Sector and Child and Youth Intervention Check completed within the past six months
  • Valid First Aid certificate or enrolled in a future course
