Snowboard Instructor

In this role, you will be providing high-quality, tailored snowboard lessons to our guests, contributing to their skill development and love for winter sports. You will work in a dynamic, supportive setting, delivering engaging lessons safely, and collaborating with your team to ensure excellent guest experiences.

Our Snowboard lessons run 7 days a week primarily on evenings and weekends. Lessons are for participants aged 4-6, 7-12, 13-17, and 18+. Our snow school offers a variety of lesson types and lengths including Private, daily, multi-week, and multi-day holiday programs. Regular weekday shifts are also available instructing School Groups Monday-Friday including a supervised lunch break.

Key responsibilities include leading check-in and out, providing duty of care for participants in lessons, providing support through the equipment rental process, teaching exceptional snowboard lessons, providing meaningful and accurate feedback and assisting in successful program execution. You'll help create a safe, welcoming environment for all participants and contribute to a positive, and memorable learning experience.

Engaging Experiences:

• Provide exceptional customer service and guest-focused experiences
• Teach and inspire guests to connect with winter and the sport of snowboarding
• Deliver clear, concise, and intentional lesson content that aligns with guests' needs, age, stage, goals, utilizing a constructive, positive-first feedback approach.

• Adjust communication and skill development strategies to appropriately fit the needs of the guest, considering their age, stage, and goals.
• Maintain an in-depth understanding of all Snow School products to assist guests and make informed recommendations.

Operational Effectiveness:

• Support beyond lessons, including the set-up and take down of exciting Snow School areas, rental shop support, and group organization.
• Lead check-in and check-out for guests participating in your lessons.
• Maintain high personal and professional standards, arriving on time, in uniform, ready and equipped for the day ahead, and adapting to changing conditions.
• Collaborate with Team Leads, Shift Leads and other instructors to ensure the successful execution of snowboard programs, maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety.
• Demonstrate proactive problem-solving skills and adaptability to meet the diverse needs of guests.

Safety/Risk Mitigation:

• Actively contribute to a safe and welcoming environment by identifying and mitigating hazards, adhering to and teaching the Alpine Responsibility Code, and ensuring compliance with all safety policies and procedures.
• Safely lead snowboard lessons tailored to guests' skill levels and goals, following CASI principles.
• Maintain Team Member and Guest areas to the highest standard of safety and appearance on and off the hill, including entrances, exits, check-in and out areas.
• Actively be aware of the inherent risks associated with snowboarding, making decisions that prioritize the safety of both yourself, other Team Members, and guests.
• Ensure accurate record-keeping, including confirming waiver completion, maintaining class cards with accurate descriptions and recording and requesting secure pick-up codes for child safety.
• Maintain duty of care at all times ensuring the safety and well-being of participants in your care by providing proper instruction, supervision, emergency preparedness, choice of appropriate terrain, bathroom breaks, and when taking breaks indoors; including specifically for School Groups maintaining duty of care from "bus to bus" including check-in, check-out, and while supervising lunch breaks.
• Other Duties as Assigned

• Current Level 1, 2, 3 or 4 certification with CASI or foreign equivalent OR registered into a certification course on or before December 15th, 2025 (PSIC certification schedule available now, CASI schedule becomes available in September)
• Strong communication skills in English.
• Strong customer service skills. Previous related experience is considered an asset.
• Able to work within a team and independently.
• Consistently reliable and punctual with a positive attitude.
• Coachable and able to adapt to feedback.
• Dual Ski/Snowboard certification is considered an asset.
• Freestyle/Park certification is considered an asset.
• NCCP certification is considered an asset.
• Previous experience teaching snowboard lessons is considered an asset.
• Previous volunteer experience is considered an asset
• Fluency in languages other than English is considered an asset.

• Healthy and prepared to be working outdoors in all weather conditions, riding every day.
• Able to lift, carry, push, or pull objects up to 20lbs occasionally.
• Able to assist with chairlift loading/unloading.

• These are seasonal positions beginning in November; start date is weather dependent.
• Full-Time, Part-Time, and Casual/Flex scheduling categories are available, depending on candidates' preference and availability to work. Hours will be scheduled/allocated based on availability, with a preference given to candidates with more consistent availability.
• Generally speaking, successful applicants with more open availability and commitment to working more hours will be scheduled more often. The table below provides a high-level overview of the scheduling categories, and more detail will be provided during the recruitment process:

• Defined holidays are December 22nd to January 2nd and February 14th to 16th.

• Weekend, Weekday and Evening schedules available, with lessons offered during all operating hours:

• • Schools Program shifts typically operate Monday - Friday between 8:30am and 2:30pm
• Weekday Evening shifts typically operate Monday to Thursday between 3:30 and 8:30pm and Friday between 11:00am and 8:00pm
• Weekend and Holiday shifts typically run between 8:00am and 5:00pm.

• Hourly compensation is based on certification level and/or experience instructing in our Snow School. Therefore, more support and additional responsibilities will be expected of higher-certified Instructors and/or Instructors with more experience at WinSport.
• Compensation for Level 1 starts at $18.30 per hour
• Compensation for Level 2 starts at $21.50 per hour
• Compensation for Level 3/4 starts at $24.00 per hour
