About the Role:
The position is for lead catastrophe modeler for the Canadian portfolio. The Primary responsibilities of the role include catastrophe modeling natural perils for varying property (re)insurance portfolios using leading commercially available vendor models. Modeled portfolios will be diverse in nature and span the gamut from small regionals and MGA portfolios to large specialty carriers with complex multinational layered and shared portfolios. The modeler will be the lead contact for broking team and Canadian clients, providing support where needed.
Essential Responsibilities:
The role involves managing the entire life-cycle of multiple catastrophe modeling projects to support brokers and actuaries service (re)insurance renewals and production of new (re)insurance opportunities and include:
- Preparation and review of exposure data including assessing data quality
- Processing of exposure data as needed for catastrophe modeling purposes
- Execution of catastrophe modeling and extraction and interpretation of results
- Creation of various reports summarizing exposures and catastrophe modeling results
- Post-catastrophe modeling analytics (e.g. reinsurance structure pricing, reinsurance cost allocation, portfolio optimization)
- The role requires a deep understanding of how the underlying catastrophe models are created and operate, the cause and effect between varying inputs and resultant output and the ability to investigate and explain modeling results.

Skills, Experience, and Education:
- Extensive catastrophe modeling experience using RMS and AIR, preferably at a (re)insurance intermediary or (re)insurer
- 5-7 years of experience
- Experience modeling US and international perils
- Bachelor's Degree or higher degree, preferably with a STEM and/or actuarial major
- Excellent written and communication skills with the ability to present complex technical subjects both internally and externally to varied audiences
- Ability to prioritize and organize tasks under time and resource constraints
- Strong understanding of relational databases and associated structured query language ("SQL") skills
- Strong Microsoft Office skills especially Excel
- Proficiency in programming using R, Python, or other comparable language
- Familiarity of personal and commercial lines insurance including policy forms and conditions
- Familiarity with data visualization tools
- Some knowledge of probability and statistics
- Strong interpersonal skills
