As the Food Safety and Quality Specialist, you will play a critical role in our operations by establishing and maintaining the Food Safety Plan, evaluating its effectiveness, identifying training needs and is to be a support resource for operations to ensure compliance with food safety standards. You will be responsible for ensuring the Quality, Authenticity, Food Safety and Legality for all programs and practices are being met.
DutiesResponsibilities
- Manage and maintain the Food Safety Plan
- Evaluate new equipment for compliance
- Maintain the Food Safety Prerequisite programs – writing, verifying, validating, and approving SOPs
- Participating in production trials and product start ups
- Participate in regulatory, customer, and internal audits
- Assist with traceability programs and processes
- Ensure the facility is in compliance with federal, provincial, and regulatory laws or guidelines
- Schedule and coordinate the completion of the internal quality and food safety audit (BRCGS)
- Ensure the facility is in compliance with organic, kosher, halal, and GFSI requirements
- Coordinate third party, customer, and government audits
- Conduct monthly internal inspections
- Ensure all facility personnel are trained in quality, GMP, and Food Safety awareness
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Bachelor's degree in Food Science or a related field and/or 4 years' experience in regulated food manufacturing facility is preferred
- Background in Quality Control or Quality Assurance is an asset
- Knowledge and understanding of statistics, Good Manufacturing Practices and regulations, Food Safety Standards, and CFIA Standards, or the ability to learn the aforementioned
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent leadership, project management, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
- Must be able to read, write and speak English
- Strong PC Skills, specifically with Microsoft Office
- PCQI Certification, or ability to become certified
- Planning and organizational skills and meticulous record keeping abilities
- Self-motivated with the ability to multitask and prioritize while remaining organized and detail orientated
Hours of Work
This position works 8hr/day, Monday – Friday. Demands of the business may dictate a variance of workday starts/ later finished, weekend work as necessary, and occasional travel during off hours and weekends. Departmental business requires general accessibility by phone and/or email during off hours and weekends.
