Position Overview:
As a Lead Hand Heavy Duty Mechanic, you'll play a key role in supporting both the shop foreman and the technician team. This position combines hands-on technical expertise with leadership responsibilities, ensuring smooth workflow and high-quality service in our dealership environment. You will assist with advanced diagnostics, perform quality inspections, and step in for the foreman when required-interacting with technicians, front-line staff, and occasionally customers. If you're an experienced Red Seal Journeyperson with strong diagnostic skills and the confidence to mentor others, this is an excellent opportunity to take the next step in your career.
Job Duties:
- Assist the foreman with daily shop operations and substitute in their absence when required.
- Support technicians with advanced diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repair procedures.
- Perform quality control inspections to ensure repairs meet safety and manufacturer standards.
- Help manage workflow in the shop to maximize efficiency and minimize downtime.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to technicians and apprentices.
- Interact with front-line staff and, when necessary, assist with customer communication.
- Utilize diagnostic software and computer-based programs to support repair processes.
- Stay current with OEM training, industry best practices, and emerging technologies.
- Contribute to a safe and professional work environment by following company policies and safety protocols.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Red Seal certification in Commercial Transport/Heavy Duty Mechanic with a minimum of 5 years' experience.
- Previous dealership experience is required.
- Supervisory or team leadership experience is considered a strong asset.
- Proficiency with diagnostics, including guided computer-based systems.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with technicians, management, and customers.
- Must hold a valid Class 5 driver's license (Class 1 or 3 is an asset and qualifies for a premium).
- Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
- Commitment to quality, safety, and fostering a collaborative team environment.
