Continuing Studies Instructor, Curating + Exhibitions – Summer Teens
Job Summary
The Continuing Studies Department at Emily Carr University of Art + Design is seeking experienced exhibitions, curators, and educators to join our team of instructors.
We are specifically hiring for the Summer Institute for Teens, part of our Summer Teens program for 16-18 year olds, which includes:
University Prep – Curating and ExhibitionsM-F 9:00am – 4:00pm, June 29 – July 24, 2026
This position is offered as a term-based contract for the duration of the scheduled course at an hourly pay rate of $80.68/hr. We encourage individuals with creative practices prioritizing one or more of the following curation and exhibition design disciplines or techniques to apply:
- A strong understanding of art histories and curatorial practice within exhibition spaces (theme development, spatial planning, gallery layout, workflow, and narrative building)
- Installation techniques (hanging 2D work, displaying 3D work, labelling)
- Knowledge on writing exhibition texts
- Handling and organizing artwork
- Documentation and photography for exhibitions
- Knowledge of arts management
- Accessibility and inclusive exhibition and community engagement
Required Qualifications
We are seeking candidates offering the following skills and experience:
- Expert knowledge in art histories, curation, exhibition design practices and arts management
- Significant knowledge of various curating and exhibition materials, tools, and techniques
For our Youth + Teen Programs, we are also seeking those with:
- Experience working with youth + teens from diverse creative, cultural and educational backgrounds
- Experience using adaptive and inclusive student engagement methods
- Considerable knowledge of critique and feedback strategies
- Experience developing lesson plans and preparing content for online and/or on-campus learning.
- Expert knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud preferred
- Secondary and/or Post-secondary teaching experience preferred
- Experience with online education (including Moodle and Microsoft Teams)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and G-Suite an asset
Preferred Qualifications
Priority will be given to candidates with:
- Canadian citizenship or Permanent Residence status (at this time we are unable to hire international applicants for instructional contract roles)
- Significant experience working in industry, who are also interested in sharing their knowledge with others
- Experience working with learners from diverse creative, cultural, and educational backgrounds at the secondary level; prior experience with mentorship or training also considered an asset
- Experience developing lesson plans; prior experience developing internal training modules or leading workshops also considered an asset
For those with little or no prior teaching experience, Continuing Studies offers support in the form of group workshops, standardized worksheets and individual meetings to assist in the process of course development and instruction.
