Role Description

This is a full-time, Safety Advisor, located in Calgary, AB, which will split time between the head office and visiting sites around the city.
 As the safety champion, this position will ensure that safety is a first priority for our field sites as well as leading on all corporate administrative needs for safety.  

Core Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and enforce health and safety policies to foster a safe workplace culture.
  • Regularly assess and evaluate practices, procedures, and facilities to identify risks and ensure legal compliance.
  • Collect, organize, and maintain all safety-related documentation including, but not limited to workplace accidents, health hazards, and safety complaints.
  • Conduct training sessions and presentations to promote accident prevention and health and safety awareness.
  • Lead safety orientations for new employees.
  • Monitor employee and operational compliance with safety policies through regular inspections and the use of current safety software systems.
  • Investigate accidents and incidents, reporting findings to Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) and managing workers' compensation claims.
  • Participate in internal and external safety audits and support preparation efforts for peer reviews.
  • Complete internal COR audits and uphold the Certificate of Recognition (COR).
  • Advise executive management on new or conflicting health and safety legislation.
  • Collaborate with management to address and resolve health and safety complaints and issues promptly.
  • Cooperate with health and safety officers during inspections or investigations.
  • Inspect the workplace monthly to ensure all areas are reviewed at least once annually.
  • Contribute to the development and revision of health and safety policies and programs.
  • Establish a Workplace Health and Safety Committee and follow all the duties required under federal jurisdiction.
  • Attend and represent the company at the BILD Safety Committee.

Qualifications:

  • 2-3 years of related work experience (on-site and in-office). Specific experience with completing COR audits is ideal.
  • Background in residential construction is required.
  • Completion of the following Alberta Construction Safety Association COR courses (Principles of health and safety management, Leadership for safety excellence, Alberta OHS Legislation awareness and Auditor training program)
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Strong acumen for conflict resolution and trouble shooting.
  • Comfortable with using computer software programs including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Must have a valid Driver's License and driver's abstract.
  • Self-motivated individual who can work independently in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
  • Team player who is willing to help in all areas as needed.
