Responsibilities
- Ensures daily inspection of the refrigeration plants that all systems are operating in a safe and expected manner; monitor system performance
- Perform preventative and corrective maintenance of refrigeration equipment for the bakery
- Maintain and ensure total awareness of and compliance to all Safety regulatory legislation through TSSA
- Read and interpret blueprints and schematics
- Ensures the recording of data and all relevant information to the operation of the bakery and maintain history of all critical equipment
- Perform scheduled Freon leak checks and report any leaks found, complete online records
- Respond to alarms, emergencies and/or equipment failures in a timely and efficient manner
- Maintain refrigeration spare parts inventory, including Freon levels
- Maintain good housekeeping within the engine room including 5S
- Coordinate with leadership, operations, sanitation, maintenance and health & safety teams
- Support continuous improvement initiatives within the bakery / plant
Requirements:
- Valid Ontario Refrigeration Operator Class A (TSSA)
- Experience in food-processing, cold storage and/or manufacturing is required
- Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills
- Familiarity with industrial refrigerants (ammonia, CO₂, etc.) and compliance standards
- Willingness to work various shifts, emergency on-call and rotational duties
- Good documentation and safety-conscious work ethic
- Strong teamwork and communication skills
- Work in industrial settings: cold storage rooms, engine rooms, compressor rooms, mechanical rooms, possibly in varying temperatures (cold, near freezers, etc.).
- Ability to climb, access confined areas, work at heights, lift/move heavy equipment (pumps, valves, tools).
- Proficient in using mechanical and power tools
- Compliance with personal protective equipment (PPE), safety protocols, lock-out / tag-out procedures.
