The Opportunity

The IWK Health Centre is seeking a leader in the care of the perinatal population for the Permanent, Full-Time position of Nurse Practitioner. Reporting to the Manager, Prenatal, the Nurse Practitioner will be an expert practitioner and patient advocate. This role will be primarily based in the Pregnancy & Diabetes Clinic where the successful candidate will provide ambulatory care to patients experiencing gestational and pre-existing diabetes. The Nurse Practitioner will assume a leadership role within the Pregnancy & Diabetes Clinic.  

Other responsibilities include:

Providing leadership in nursing developing, promoting and maintaining an interdisciplinary collaboration in a team environmentIntegrating the skills and knowledge of diabetes in a collaborative practice settingWorking in partnership with professional nurses and other disciplines to provide holistic patient/family centred care and advance the practice of nursing.Participate in planning and implementing change related to clinical, educational and research issues in nursing.Works in collaboration with interprofessional team to provide care within scope of practiceProvides clinical leadership related to advanced nursing practice issues, and scope includes the roles of a clinician, educator, consultant, and researcher.Promotes liaisons among nursing and other health disciplines in the care of the patient and family in the Centre and in the community.Dedication to continuing learning for self and team. Hours of Work

Monday - Friday; 75 hours bi-weekly.

Your Qualifications Successful completion of a Nurse Practitioner graduate program from a recognized program or in progress (Upcoming graduates welcome to apply)Currently registered, or eligible to be registered, with the Nova Scotia College of Nursing (NSCN) as a Nurse Practitioner required (graduates within six (6) months of program completion are eligible to apply)Current successful completion of a Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada Basic Life Support Level (BLS) Program within the last 12 months, or successful completion of a BLS Renewal Challenge Certificate, required.Minimum of five (5) years' experience and clinical competence in perinatal nursing required.Demonstrated clinical competence and experience in diabetes in pregnancy and a commitment to build on that expertise.Demonstrated organizational, conceptual, and leadership skills required.Demonstrated advanced practice skills and competence in interpersonal relations, problem-solving, communication, negotiation, assertiveness and innovation required.Demonstrated ability to perform autonomously.Demonstrated ability to adapt to constantly changing, unpredictable situations. Has the flexibility required to work with others and allow the role to evolve continually through time, always looking for ways to improve the delivery of care.Demonstrated flexibility in working with others.Commitment to family centered care.Commitment to patient safety and continuous quality improvement.Competency in other languages will be considered an asset.
