Role Description:

Matchline Engineering is looking for an Intermediate to Senior Structural Engineer to join our Edmonton Industrial Engineering group. This is a contract hourly remote position with a preference for candidates within Edmonton and the surrounding area. The individual will be part of a team supporting our oil, gas, mining and manufacturing clients and the position may require occasional visits to sites. The position will be contract hourly to start, but there may be near future opportunity for a full-time permanent position.

Requirements and Responsibilities:

  • Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) Registered with APEGA
  • 7+ Years of Structural experience working on Industrial Projects experience in a consulting engineering environment.
  • Develop structural related design drawings, specifications, reports, and work packages.
  • Review and apply industry and client standards and procedures to project designs and deliverables.
  • Coordinate cross-discipline with a project team of engineers and designers.
  • Work with document control to request drawing revisions.
  • Conduct site visits to gather data, take measurements and photos for initial inspections and drawing as-builts.
  • Develop Bills of Materials (BOMs).

Skills and Experience:

  • Thorough understanding of industrial focused structural engineering concepts.
  • Experience with small to medium scale industrial construction projects including: equipment foundations, maintenance platforms, pipe supports, duct supports, pump pads, building extensions, ladders, stairs, handrails, fall arrest, pump pads, conveyor supports etc.
  • Experience with structural modelling software such as S-FRAME, Robot Structural Analysis, RISA, STAAD
  • Experience with finite-element programs (e.g., ETABS, and SAP 2000) is considered an asset.
  • Experience directing the preparation of industrial structural design drawing packages including structural plans, sections and details, foundation plans, base plate layouts etc.
  • Able to perform basic visual inspections and measurements in the field.
  • Able to review shop drawings and prepare RFI responses.
  • Able to independently collect data and gather information to support design decisions.
  • Ability to interpret engineering and design documentation and take general scopes and instructions from thought to conception with minimal supervision.
  • Familiar with NBC (AE) and other codes & standards commonly employed for industrial projects.
  • Experience with connection design and shop drawing production is considered an asset.
  • Experience with civil engineering design is considered an asset.
  • Must possess excellent verbal communication and technical writing skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to work independently and remotely using MS Teams, Outlook, SharePoint and other digital collaboration tools.
