About The Role
The Municipality of Clarington, Public Services Department, Community Services Division is looking for enthusiastic and knowledgeable staff to provide leadership and supervision in a safe and enjoyable environment for our summer day camps. Our day camps operate June 29 through September 4, 2026. The Municipality offers a variety of day camp programs including sports camp, kinder camp, arts camp, and more.
Key Responsibilities
The following responsibilities and duties of this position includes but is not limited to:
- Assisting Head Camp Instructor in the implementation of camp programs.
- Assisting the supervision and organization of activities, special events and field trips.
- Supporting the supervision of camp staff and volunteers.
- Collaborating and contributing in the delivery of all mandatory training and meetings.
- Overseeing daily camp activities.
- Providing support, guidance, and feedback to staff.
- Collecting daily attendance records and making any necessary follow up calls.
- Other duties as assigned.
What you bring
The Successful Candidate Will Possess
- Candidates must currently be enrolled in full-time studies in a secondary or post-secondary recognized educational institution on a full-time basis (to be verified).
- Candidates must be a minimum of 16 years of age
- Candidates must exhibit maturity, responsibility, and leadership qualities.
- Three (3) years experience working with children and youth in a recreation setting or day camp is required.
- Two (2) years program leadership experience at a supervisory level is required.
- Excellent verbal communication skills and strong written communication skills.
- Demonstrated experience in areas of program planning and evaluation.
- Demonstrated experience providing excellent customer service.
- Proof of current Standard First Aid and CPR "C" certification would be an asset at time of interview. Successful candidates must obtain a Standard First Aid and CPR "C" certificate at employee's expense prior to commencing employment.
- Certificate in High 5 Principles of Healthy Child Development (PHCD) would be an asset at time of interview. Successful candidates must obtain a PHCD certificate at employee's expense prior to commencing employment.
- Must be legally able to work in Canada.
Please note:
Successful candidates will be required to complete scheduled training prior to camp beginning.
What We Offer
- Rate of pay: $21.29 per hour (2026 rate).
- Hours of work: Summer Day camp employment would be from June 1 to September 4, 2026, with 40 hours of evening/weekend training during the month of June, and up to a maximum of 40 hours per week during July and August, pending successful day camp registration.
Additional Information
A satisfactory criminal record check with a vulnerable sector check and proof of qualifications will be required for the successful candidate.
Prior to starting the position, the successful candidate must provide, at their own expense, the following:
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR "C" Certificate.
- High 5 Principles of Healthy Child Development Certificate.
