Desired Results Of The Position

  • A student body connected to its Board of Directors and one that understands and values the role of its Students' Association
  • Students have intimate knowledge of services available to them via the Algonquin Students' Association (SA)

Nature And Scope
The Marketing Officer is responsible for creating innovative ways to market the Students' Association to its members. Supporting the Manager, Marketing, the Marketing Officer coordinates and implements marketing campaigns to help promote the offerings of the Students' Association. This position is a team player with the ability to work directly with all departments of the SA. The Marketing Officer remains current with industry best practices and continually performs market research to understand the Students' Association's changing membership. The position requires that the incumbent establish harmonious and productive relationships with SA Board and staff, college officials, student groups, and the outside community.

Job Duties

  • Develop initiatives that coincide with the overall SA communications and marketing strategy.
  • Promotes specific service areas such as Athletics and Recreation, Hospitality Services, Student Life, Health Plan, and more.

  • Leads communication with assigned SA departments to develop marketing campaigns and promotional opportunities. Then, coordinate with the marketing and communications team to create and implement those campaigns.

  • Marketing and administrative support duties include:

  • Seeking opportunities to identify and action process improvements relating to marketing programs.

  • Coordinating the Students' Association's presence and participation in Algonquin College recruitment initiatives.
  • Establishing and maintaining harmonious and productive relationships with students, SA Staff and College Staff to advance and support the brand and reputation of the Students' Association.
  • Managing poster boards and external signage.

  • Plans the SA Brand Ambassadors' promotions and ensures the team is educated.

  • Creates surveys to collect and analyze data on student demographics, preferences, needs, and service usage habits to identify potential markets and factors affecting service demand.
  • Organizes and facilitates focus groups as directed.
  • With direction from the Manager, Marketing, and the Board of Directors, supports the:

  • Class Representatives program:

  • Compiles and manages information for the Class Representatives database.

  • Sends out important information throughout the year.
  • Takes meeting minutes for training/meetings and is responsible for posting them to the website.

  • Board of Directors elections:

  • Assemble and promote nomination packages for candidates.

  • Assists with coordinating marketing efforts to encourage students to vote during election week.

  • General duties as assigned by the Manager, Marketing.

Desired Skills And Qualifications

  • Diploma in marketing, communications, advertising, public relations, or media design
  • Three years of direct work experience in a marketing role
  • Advanced knowledge in creating and executing successful marketing campaigns
  • Ability to build and sustain relationships
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Excellent time management skills to meet deadlines
  • A positive attitude and ability to work both individually and in a team environment
  • Willing to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings
  • Familiarity with graphic design concepts is measured as an advantage

Compensation

  • This position is part of CUPE Local 5154 – pay level 4 ($31.42- $34.81)
  • This position is a full-time position, 35 hours a week.
