Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and energetic Overnight Personal Support Worker (PSW) to provide compassionate care and support to residents during nighttime hours. In this vital role, you will ensure the safety, comfort, and well-being of individuals with diverse needs, including seniors, those with developmental disabilities, and residents requiring memory or dementia care. Your proactive approach and attentive care will help create a secure environment where residents feel valued and supported throughout the night. This position offers an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in people's lives while working in a dynamic, team-oriented setting.
Responsibilities
- Monitor residents' safety and well-being throughout overnight shifts, ensuring a secure environment at all times.
- Assist with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including personal hygiene, dressing, mobility assistance, and toileting.
- Administer medications accurately following prescribed protocols and document medication administration using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems.
- Take vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiration rates to monitor health status.
- Support residents with dementia or memory care needs by implementing behavior management techniques and providing engaging activities.
- Operate assistive devices such as Hoyer lifts safely to support resident mobility and prevent injuries.
- Prepare nutritious meals and snacks in accordance with dietary guidelines, ensuring residents' nutritional needs are met.
- Maintain cleanliness of resident areas by performing light cleaning duties to promote hygiene and comfort.
- Document all care activities thoroughly in compliance with facility policies and regulatory standards.
- Communicate effectively with team members, family members, healthcare professionals, and emergency responders as needed.
- Respond promptly to emergencies or incidents during overnight hours, including contacting first responders if necessary.
- Support residents' social engagement by fostering a respectful and caring environment that promotes independence whenever possible.
Experience
- Prior experience working as a PSW or caregiver in assisted living facilities, nursing homes, retirement homes, or home & community care settings is highly preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Alzheimer's care, dementia management, and memory care techniques.
- Experience assisting individuals with developmental disabilities or working within group home environments is advantageous.
- Familiarity with long-term care procedures, medication administration protocols, vital signs monitoring, and behavior management strategies is essential.
- Proficiency in using EMR systems for documentation is desirable.
- Hands-on experience operating assistive devices such as Hoyer lifts or other mobility aids is beneficial.
- Valid First Aid certification is required; additional certifications related to caregiving or healthcare are an asset.
- Ability to work independently during overnight shifts while maintaining high standards of safety and compassion is crucial.
