Position Summary

Newcomer Women's Services Toronto (NEW) is currently seeking a motivated Job Developer/Workforce Specialist with a proven background in sales or business development to support the BuildHERFuture program. The BuildHERFuture project is an initiative dedicated to advancing women's participation and success in the construction industry through credentialing, mentorship, skills development and hands-on experience. In this position, the incumbent will leverage their strong interpersonal skills, sales expertise and ability to build networks to establish partnerships with employers. Our objective is to create employment opportunities in the construction industry for racialized individuals, including women and youth. This role integrates business development with relationship management to ensure our clients connect with employers committed to providing long-term, sustainable employment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Business Development and Employer Outreach: Proactively identify, engage, and cultivate relationships with businesses within the community, emphasizing the advantages of collaboration with our agency. This involves conducting both cold and warm calls, attending on-site meetings, and developing a pipeline of potential employers who will provide genuine growth opportunities for our clients.
  • Client-Employer Matching: Employ your expertise in understanding client skill sets to effectively align them with job opportunities. Coordinate and follow up on interviews, negotiate placement terms, and ensure satisfaction for both clients and employers through consistent follow-ups at the three, six, nine, and twelve-month marks to support employment retention.
  • Sales-Focused Outreach: Implement sales techniques to identify opportunities within the hidden job market, positioning our services to prospective employers by underscoring the benefits of recruiting from a diverse talent pool.
  • Target-Based Performance: Strive to meet or exceed job development and placement objectives while maintaining an organized record of employer outreach, client placements, and other essential metrics that pertain to performance standards.
  • Cross-Team Collaboration: Collaborate closely with Employment Counselors and fellow team members to comprehensively understand the needs and strengths of our clients. Actively participate in team discussions to refine strategies for engaging employers effectively.
  • Event Planning: Collaborate with employer partners to identify, secure, and execute hiring events, job fairs, and employment-related initiatives that support the vulnerable communities we serve.

Qualifications

  • Sales or Business Development Experience: Minimum of 3 years in a sales, business development, or client relations role. Experience with lead generation, client acquisition, or B2B outreach is highly valuable.
  • Education: Degree or diploma in Business Administration, Sales, Marketing, or a related field.
  • Construction Industry Knowledge: Experience, knowledge or connection to the construction industry or employers is highly valuable.
  • Skills: Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with a proven ability to build rapport, negotiate effectively, and maintain long-term relationships. Time management and multitasking capabilities are essential for success in this fast-paced role.
  • Values-Driven: A commitment to diversity, equity, and anti-oppression, and a willingness to support the socio-economic advancement of newcomer and racialized communities.
  • Flexibility & Travel: Given the nature of the project, the Job Developer must be comfortable working evenings and weekends as required. This position requires travel throughout Ontario, thus a valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle are essential.
  • Language: Proficiency in a second language is an asset.
