Position Summary:

The Chief Mining Engineer is responsible for providing technical assistance and support to mine operations and for developing, leading, directing, and coordinating mine/staff engineers, surveyors, and technicians in their assigned operational responsibilities. Ensuring a safe, environmentally sound setting for the technical team is paramount to the success of the mine. Building an environment that integrates the engineering group with an operations team which challenges and inspires creativity, fact-finding, and solution generation is incumbent to the role, as is leading the engineering department in breaking down barriers between departments.

Essential Functions:

·
 Actively support Health & Safety Management and Environmental systems and regulatory compliance.

·      Coach and mentor the Engineering Department in accordance with SVMC leadership qualities.

·      Regularly interact and be visible with the workforce, demonstrating high-level leadership qualities.

·      Work with the site senior leadership team in continuing the development of a focused, engaged culture throughout the organization.

·      Establish and execute short and long-range plans that support the optimal growth of the operation.

·      Develop and execute strategic workforce planning and organizational development with the technical team.

·      Foster cooperation, collaboration, and innovation to ensure that realistic technical goals are being set and met. Ensure that resource value is being maximized.

·      Facilitate weekly planning meetings and other site technical meetings.

·      Lead the site mine technical team to ensure maximum support to mine operations and maintenance activities, as well as other mine support groups, through safely optimizing mine operation systems, planning and procedures.

·      Oversee multiple work groups and take appropriate action in supporting positive actions as well as professionally addressing inappropriate behaviors.

·      Be proactive in all aspects of the operation; safety, effective and efficient utilization of resources, productivity, Continuous Improvement initiatives and teamwork across the site.

·      Partner with the Mine Geology team and other Technical areas to provide maximum and efficient technical support to the mine production and operations areas of the site.

·      Demonstrate positive two-way communication, fair and consistent administration of Company policies and procedures, and responsiveness to employee concerns.

·      Develop and communicate site goals and initiatives in cooperation with other site managers.

·      Responsibilities include (but are not limited to) mine ventilation, rock mechanics, planning and survey, paste backfill planning and operations, maintenance and development of surface facilities in support of the mining operation, design of waste laydown areas, and ore stockpile areas.

·    Create and oversee the execution of activities in line with the Mine Plan and with the Budget.

·    Prepare and deliver a 0 to 3-month forecast in line with the Life-of-Mine and enable the business to meet its objectives in terms of production.

·    Assist in managing scheduling systems required to execute the mine plan effectively.

·    Identifies possible upcoming schedule risks and initiates control measures to mitigate the effects on the mine plan.

·    Actively look for opportunities to accelerate work/implement cost savings to provide schedule opportunities in areas of control.

·    Prepare month-end reports, including spatial and mine plan attainment, and communicate with all relevant stakeholders.

·    Support the General Manager in creating, updating and communicating various reports (weekly, monthly, quarterly, GM presentations, etc.)

·    Actively participate in establishing and following mine plan objectives and strategic planning.

·    Execute strategic plans, including but not limited to:

- Drilling program target prioritization, budgeting and execution

- Mine life extension scenario generation and associated studies

- Supporting technical studies to enhance cost structure

- Strategic business improvement projects (technology adoption, continuous improvement, etc.)

- Permitting roadmap development and technical support

- Contractor management and procurement support

- Actively participate in mine planning and budget exercises

Training and Experience Required

:

·
A bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or equivalent is required.

· years of mining-related experience with 5 years of management experience is required.

·   Experience with budgeting and mine planning using DESWIK or other scheduling software (previous experience with DESWIK highly preferred).

·      Experience in underground development planning is highly preferred.

·      Ability to perform the essential functions of the position is required.

Skills and Abilities Preferred:

·      Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

·      Experience in MS Office, DESWIK, LeapFrog, Xeras and database management software.

·      Experience in mining and processing requirements and MSHA governance.

Physical Demands/Work Environment

·
     Move head and neck repeatedly in up and down, side-to-side motion at various times throughout the shift. Sit and turn your head approximately 90 degrees to view the driving direction while operating the pedals with your feet and steering with your hands (if applicable).

·      Stand, walk, kneel, reach, and/or sit for extended periods of time (up to an entire shift) on concrete, uneven, rock-strewn, wet, snowy, icy, muddy, slick ground or in various lighting while performing duties.

·      Use depth perception and peripheral vision continuously during shift.

·      Hear, see and smell various kinds of warnings such as audible alarms, voices, hand and light signals, and stench gas (if applicable).

·      Wear required protective equipment, including steel-toe shoes or boots, safety glasses, a hard hat, welding leathers, welding goggles or shield, arc flash protection, fall protection, hearing protection and/or dual hearing protection and if applicable, a cap lamp, respirator and self-rescuer.

·      Perform duties under conditions that may be hazardous, including extreme temperature, high humidity, moving equipment, moving mechanical parts, hot mechanical parts, and equipment traffic; and exposure to fumes, odours, dusts, gases, liquids, greases, and mists.

·      Ability to read and write instructions and communicate information in one-on-one and group situations.

·      This position requires the ability to regularly walk over uneven, sloped, rocky, wet or icy ground and the ability to lift 25 or more pounds consistently and safely.
