Intermediate Mine Site Planning
We're seeking an Intermediate Mine Site Planning & Modeling Specialist to support the development of practical, effective mine site planning and water management solutions. This role can be based out of either British Columbia or Alberta. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys technical modeling work, solving complex problems, and applying their skills to help mining clients make informed and defensible planning decisions.
You'll work closely with our senior professionals and the Mine Site Planning & Modeling Lead to build and refine GoldSim models that support mine planning, operations, and environmental permitting in British Columbia. You'll play a central role in delivering high-quality project work while developing your skills toward taking on more responsibility and leadership within the team.
The Company
We are a 100% employee-owned consulting engineering firm, but we are also more than that. Our diverse crew includes engineers, technologists, biologists, agrologists, planners, scientists, and more. We began in 1975 and work together in an environment that empowers us to think differently about real-world problems. We want to work with those who, like us, take pride in creating innovative solutions that push the boundaries of conventional practices.
In addition, we seek opportunities for continuous improvement in our work and support those who have a passion for excellence. At KWL, we care about each other and strive to create a fun, open and engaging environment that leverages our individual strengths and encourages vibrant discussion.
What You'll Do
- Develop and maintain GoldSim models to support mine water management, site planning, and permitting.
- Gather, review, and analyze site data (climate, hydrology, water balance, infrastructure) to support model inputs and assumptions.
- Execute modeling runs, conduct sensitivity analyses, and interpret results to provide practical insights for mine planning and decision-making.
- Prepare clear and concise technical documentation, reports, and figures to communicate modeling methods and outcomes.
- Collaborate with engineers, hydrologists, and environmental specialists to integrate modeling results into design and permitting processes.
- Support field investigations, data collection, and site assessments as required.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of modeling workflows, tools, and templates.
- Participate in client meetings and technical discussions under the guidance of senior staff.
What You'll Bring
- A positive and motivated personality
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Environmental, Mining, or Civil Engineering; Hydrology; Geoscience; or a related field.
- Professional Designation with EGBC or APEGA.
- 7+ years of relevant experience in mine water management, hydrology, or environmental modeling as a P.Eng.
- Working knowledge of GoldSim for water balance or system modeling is required (experience with probabilistic and stochastic modeling is an asset).
- Understanding of mine water systems, site infrastructure, and environmental permitting requirements in BC.
- Strong data analysis, problem-solving, and technical writing skills.
- Collaborative and self-motivated — comfortable taking ownership of tasks and contributing to team success.
- Eligibility for professional registration (EIT, P.Eng., GIT, or P.Geo.) in BC is an asset. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written) and be able to work with team members in a multi-disciplinary environment
- A desire to learn new skills and an eagerness to grow within your role
- A valid driver's license (in good standing) is mandatory
- Must be physically able to conduct field visits commensurate with project work. This may include handling and operation of equipment, travel to remote areas by vehicle, boat, air or foot, and outdoor site visits in all weather conditions on uneven/varying ground terrain.

- Be part of a team known for practical, reliable solutions to complex mine site water challenges
- Work alongside senior professionals with deep experience in mine water management and planning
- Gain hands-on experience with advanced modeling tools (GoldSim) and real-world mine site applications
