Your Opportunity Stantec is seeking an Intermediate Geotechnical Engineer to join our Mining, Minerals and Metals practice in Vancouver, BC or Calgary, AB. This position works collaboratively with Stantec offices across Canada, the U.S., South America, and Australia on metals, coal, and large oil sands mining projects. As a Geotechnical Engineer, you will be part of a multidisciplinary team working on energy and resources projects throughout the project lifecycle—from exploration and site investigations to conceptual design, construction, closure, and reclamation. Projects typically involve design and evaluation of mine waste structures including pit walls, mine rock and tailings storage facilities, and surface water impoundments. The opportunity to work in a hybrid environment between your home office and the local Stantec office is available for this position. Key Responsibilities Lead or support the planning and completion of geotechnical site investigations, including instrumentation, logging, sampling, and field testing. Install, monitor, and interpret data from geotechnical instrumentation. Lead or support the analysis and design of earth structures, including mine pit slopes, waste disposal areas, and tailings dams. Support mine and tailings planning groups in the development and design of large mining and closure projects. Lead or support the preparation of technical design documents under limited supervision. Generate and update technical drawings, figures, and models. Assist in the preparation of project proposals under limited supervision. Comply with and actively participate in Stantec and client safety programs. Capabilities & Credentials Clear verbal and written communication in English; proficiency in Spanish, French, or Portuguese is an asset. Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, CAD systems, and GeoStudio (or equivalent) suites. Work experience in mining or resource industries is an asset. Ability to conduct work safely with a high degree of situational awareness. May be required to travel for field assignments (up to 2–3 consecutive weeks, up to 40% annual travel); accommodations can be considered on a case‑by‑case basis. Education and Experience Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in geotechnical, geological, civil, or mining engineering. Between 4 and 10 years of industry or consulting experience; co‑op or intern experience is applicable. Registered P.Eng. or eligible for registration with Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia (EGBC) or Alberta Professional Engineers Geoscientists Association (APEGA). Valid Class 5 driver’s license and satisfactory driver’s abstract per Stantec’s Safe Driving Policy. Pay Range Locations in Lower Mainland – BC, GTA & Ottawa, Ontario: $94,600.00 – $137,100.00 annually. In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. The final compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. Certain roles are bonus eligible. Part‑time roles will be pro‑rated based on agreed hours per week.
