The Co-op Student will support the Software Department in day-to-day development, testing, and operational tasks. This role is designed to provide hands-on learning opportunities while contributing to active projects under the guidance of the Software Lead and team developers.

Responsibilities:

• The Co-Op student will provide development support within the Software Department – support with writing, reviewing, and maintaining code, following coding standards and naming conventions defined by policy, create small features, bug fixes or enhancements in assigned repositories and participate in pull requests and peer review discussions.
• Testing & Quality assurance – perform manual an exploratory testing on QA environments, document test results, including sharing findings with developers, assist in reproducing bugs reported by users or QA team and learn and use tools such as Postman and Swagger.
• Documentation & Reporting – maintain proper notes, support in updating technical documentation/user guides and record and track bugs or incidents assigned by team members.
• CI/CD & Devops exposure – shadow developer during deployments using Azure Pipelines, Docker, and Flux CD, learn basics of Git branching, PR workflows, and deployment pipelines, and support environment setup (local dev machines, QA environments)
• Attend daily stand-up and team meetings – share progress, blockers and next steps, including knowledge sharing
• Engage and collaborate with all departments, people and stakeholders across the organization in a professional manner
• Contribute positively to the team environment
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• Strong understanding and experience with object-oriented programming principles
• Experience building and consuming RESTful APIs
• Familiarity with at least one programming language (JavaScript, Python, or C#)
• Fundamental problem-solving and analytical thinking abilities
• Basic experience with version control systems (Azure DevOps preferred)
• Willingness to work onsite full-time at our Acheson, Alberta facility.

• Applicants must have work authorization in Canada that does not require current or future visa sponsorship.

Physical demands & working conditions:

• Must be willing to wear PPE within the shop (Hi-vis vest, Steel toed boots, safety glasses), and earplugs when needed
• Combination of speaking, walking, and sitting for extended periods
• Meet attendance schedule – reliable, dependable and on time.
• Must have reliable transportation
