Position Summary

The Senior Financial Analyst, reporting to the Controller/Manager, is a key contributor to the daily financial operations of Ethos Specialty Insurance. This role is responsible for processing accounting transactions, ensuring the accuracy of financial records, supporting premium and claims accounting functions, and assisting with monthly financial reporting. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-focused, and thrives in a fast-paced insurance setting.

Key Responsibilities

Premium & Claims Accounting

  • Process broker statements, premium payments, and bordereaux reports.
  • Reconcile premium receivables, payables, and trust accounts.
  • Assist with monthly/quarterly premium and claims bordereaux validation and uploads.
  • Coordinate with underwriting, claims, and broker partners to resolve discrepancies.

General Accounting

  • Enter and maintain accurate financial data in the accounting system(s).
  • Process accounts payable invoices and employee expense reimbursements.
  • Prepare bank reconciliations and support fiduciary accounting entries.
  • Assist with accruals, journal entries, and general ledger maintenance.

Compliance & Operational Support

  • Support the implementation and testing of accounting process improvements.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure strong financial controls and data integrity.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 1–3 years of accounting experience; insurance industry experience is an asset.
  • Knowledge of premium accounting, bordereaux data, or MGA/Carrier accounting is preferred.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong understanding of basic accounting principles.
  • Proficiency with MS Excel (pivot tables, lookups preferred).
  • Experience with accounting or policy-administration systems is an asset.
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally and manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong communication skills and comfort interacting with brokers and internal teams.
