SUMMARY:
This position serves as the Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) for the Toronto Distribution Centre facilities.   The incumbent is responsible for overseeing and managing the overall Human Resources (HR) function and is responsible for identifying opportunities and implementing and executing related Human Resource initiatives, programs and policies for their client group.  The position acts as an HR generalist, providing day-to-day advice and support to the operations teams and manages a department responsible for payroll administration and HR system activities for the Distribution Centres in Ontario.  
 
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Act as the HR Business Partner for the Distribution Centres by identifying and providing HR solutions to business issues and alignment with business objectives.  
- Work collaboratively, and with the centres of expertise as needed, to implement the HR business strategy, and is responsible to develop associated action plans.  
- Ensures excellence in communication and follow up with the management teams and employees in the facilities which operate 24/7.
- Participate in the development and execution of HR/LR programs or initiatives to meet the needs of the business.
- Responsible for supporting their client group in executing various HR programs and solutions including performance management, succession planning and attendance and absence management.  Advise, guide and support management on employee relations issues in line with Company programs, policies, procedures and best practices  
- Conduct and/or oversee investigations and timely resolution of complaints and policy non-compliance issues.
- Oversee resolution on issues related to legislative compliance, litigation (wrongful dismissals, human rights complaints, employment standards complaints) as well as Company policies and procedures.
- Actively collaborates with the Labour Relations department to assist and provide support to the operations team to ensure alignment between the collective agreements and HR policies and procedures.
- Oversee the team responsible for managing the integrity of the HR management system, ensuring accuracy, efficiency and compliance with audit requirements.  Establishes controls to monitor compliance, including ongoing examination of the system through audits and analysis.
- Manage the accurate application of collective agreement requirements in the HR management system and accurate payroll processing for approximately 1,300 employees. Ensures systems are updated appropriately and in a timely manner for employee life cycle transactions.
- Oversees and manages department customer service standards and develops services or service-improvement processes for area of responsibility.
- Develops and applies procedures within the department consistent with HR policies, collective agreement requirements and applicable legislation and regulations.
- Responsible for the preparation, monitoring and achievement of the department budget.
- Actively participates in related HR/IT projects up to and including implementation.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
- University degree and 5+ years related experience.  CHRL/CHRP designation is an asset. 
- Retail Industry and Logistics/Warehousing knowledge and experience an asset.
- Experience working in a unionized environment
- Excellent verbal and written skills and ability to communicate effectively with all levels in the organization 
- Excellent business acumen and proven ability to guide, influence and achieve results through others.
- Working knowledge of SAP / HR. 
- Excellent skills in time management, coaching, teamwork, all executed with a high degree of professionalism.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive and competitive data.
 
RELATIONSHIPS:
The position is responsible for a team of approximately 8 HR and Payroll staff supporting the various Distribution Centres.  The position has external contacts with government agencies such as Service Canada.  Internally has regular contact with departments including Total Rewards, Talent and Organizational Development, Health and Safety, Payroll, Security and Resilience/Loss Prevention, Legal and DC Operations on a variety of issues.
