ROLE PURPOSE

This position will provide casework and support to residents of Connective's programs to enhance their quality of life, to ensure the orderly and safe operation of the facility, and to maintain the goals of the counselling and/or rehabilitative plans.

STATUS

Unionized. This position is open to all applicants.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Ensure services and interactions are guided by trauma-informed principles and the Two-Eyed Seeing approach, valuing and integrating both Indigenous and Western knowledge systems.
  • Foster environments that prioritize safety, trust, and cultural humility while promoting equitable and inclusive practices for all service users and colleagues.
  • Apply harm reduction principles to all aspects of work, recognizing and respecting individuals' autonomy and diverse circumstances. Commit to non-judgmental, person-centered support that reduces risks and barriers, while fostering empowerment and access to resources.
  • Participate in the assessment, goal setting, and program planning - such as Personal Service Plans - for individuals living semi independently. Documents and implements the plan and provides input into the evaluation of the program.
  • Evaluates client needs and develops short term plans to meet such needs with the active participation of residents and their families.
  • Works directly with additional staff (i.e., Social Workers and Outreach Workers), community service and support providers, government and non-government organizations, and First Nations service providers to inform the development and implementation of individual support plans consistent with harm reduction and Connective's philosophies and practices.
  • Assists residents to function more independently in their own homes and in the community. Assists residents with daily life skills, social skills, and/or behaviour management.
  • Nurtures opportunities and assists residents with activities such as grooming, basic cooking, money management, shopping, household safety, and pet care.
  • Facilitates physical, recreational, educational, social, and vocational activities.
  • Recognizes, analyzes, and deals with potential emergency situations such as aggressive behaviour(s) to minimize potential harm to others and/or the public.
  • Administers medication to residents in accordance with established policy.
  • Ensures health and safety standards are maintained.
  • Maintains oversight of the building as required to mitigate conflict amongst residents and/or other persons accessing the property.
  • Completes regular and routine walk-through checks of the property and immediately surrounding area.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • Graduated with a Diploma in a related human/social service field and one-year of related experience.
  • Experience with clients with a history of conflict with the law, developmental disabilities and/or spectrum disorders, experiencing homelessness, interaction with social agencies and experiencing mental health challenges.
  • Experience working in the Vancouver's Downtown Eastside
  • Experience working with First Nation communities.
  • Demonstrated ability to deal with aggressive behaviors.
  • An understanding of providing service to people with different learning abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English

REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to successfully complete a Criminal Records Check
  • Current WorkSafe approved Emergency First Aid Certificate
  • Willing to complete Food Safe Certificate (Level 1)

COMPENSATION

As Connective is a unionized environment, the starting wage is $25.95 per hour The wage will increase with every 2,000 hours worked up to a maximum of $29.76 per hour.

Important: Candidates must be legally authorized to work in Canada, observe their weekly hours limit if under a temporary or study visa, and provide proof of eligibility if selected for the role.
