Child and Youth Support Worker

Job description
Sparkling Legacy is hiring Child and Youth Care Workers If you're interested in the job but not the area, apply anyway- we hire island-wide.
Our team is understanding, non-judgemental, kind, and neurodivergent-affirming. We value each others' opinions, operate with mutual respect, and try our best to leave our masks at home. We provide in-home and community-based lifeskills supports, respite care, and housekeeping to primarily neurodivergent households, and we are proud to have a heavily neurodivergent staff (our owner is AuDHD with 2E kiddos).
This is a job where you will get the chance to make a big impact for the people you work with inside a work environment that values autonomy and open communication.
Experience supporting autistic children and adults is a major bonus to apply with us. If you're familiar with Ross Greene, our values will likely align. Lived experience is applicable, and your attitude and life experience mean more to us than your resume.
What we offer:
- Competitive wages (we are a living wage employer)
- Flexible hours and a health spending plan available if you work enough hours
- Smaller child-caregiver ratios
- Independence/autonomy in task completion supported by detailed care planning
- We value your neurodivergent lived experience and your opinion
What we look for:
- Non-judgemental, helpful, and gentle/encouraging demeanour
- You're willing to chip in and get your hands dirty or play along if a messy task comes up (or you will communicate openly if this is a sensory squick for you)
- You believe in autonomy and champion that for the people you help
- You have an excellent understanding of consent and apply it throughout your life
- Safety focus and experience supporting people who may use unexpected behaviours to communicate their needs
- You must be willing to center the people you serve- we are often a significant piece in a child's attachment and support matrix. Please don't apply if you are flaky or noncommittal. This is more than "just a job" to the people we help.
- Ability to problem solve in high pressure situations
- Physical ability to handle the demands of a physical job
- Desire to help and clean up around the house- housework is part of this role for many of our clients
- Ability to pass a vulnerable sector criminal record check
- Access to your own reliable transportation, a valid driver's license, and a clear driving record are greatly beneficial to this position.
Please note: because this is a community based position and not a facility, we will not have a full time role for you to walk into. Our positions ramp up from part-time/casual to full time roles for the staff that want that many hours and have good availability.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Permanent, Casual, Seasonal
Pay: From $25.00 per hour
Benefits:
- Casual dress
- Flexible schedule
- Mileage reimbursement
- Wellness program
Application question(s):
- How do you build rapport with the children you work with?
- Do you have deescalation training/experience?
Work Location: In person
