Course Title: SSM2030 - Advanced Sustainability Management

Class Schedule: Winter Term: Mondays, 5:30-8:30pm

Dates of Appointment: January 1st, 2026 – April 30th, 2026

Description of Course: The course is designed to provide knowledge and applications of advanced aspects/tools related to sustainability management. The course covers advanced aspects focused on carbon (GHG) measurement and accounting; life cycle assessments; and water efficiency and conservation in different sectors. Accordingly, the course is divided in three modules. In each module, the emphasis will be on application of advanced aspects/tools to sustainability management. This course will equip students with the industry knowledge and essential skills to manage the risks and opportunities of transitioning an organization to the low carbon economy and prepare them for a sustainable future. The module I of the course will introduce the concept of GHG emissions sources, sinks, and reservoirs as well as how organizations are setting emission reduction targets and baselines to meet stakeholder expectations. The module II of the course will address the specifications of the assessment of the life cycle GHG emissions of goods and services and life cycle impact assessment. The module III of the course will provide a holistic approach to water footprint as well as inform students about the water use regulations in large buildings in Canada. 

Position Description: a) grading quizzes, tests, assignments and exams b) meet with or respond to students' inquiries during office hours c) update material and grades on Quercus courseware d) attend weekly lecture and/or review lecture material e) other duties as required

Minimum Qualifications: Must have completed and achieved a minimum grade of "A" in SSM 2030 or equivalent courses

Preferred Qualifications: Preference given to applicants with previous TA experience in this course. 

Salary FCE): $ vacation pay 

Anticipated Enrollment: 35

Preference in hiring is given to qualified individuals advanced to the rank of Sessional Lecturer II or Sessional Lecturer III in accordance with Article 14:12 of the CUPE 3902 Unit 3 collective agreement.
