The Role:
As an Engineering Specialist in Controls, you will lead problem-solving to assist plants and implementation teams resolve tooling, equipment, and conveyor performance issues and downtime. You will utilize and leverage plant monitoring software to review cycle times of automation, as well as review and follow up on automation projects and installations.
ResponsibilitiesThe primary responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to:
- Coordinate resources to find root cause and fixes, manage and breakdown problems into items that can be validated using proper validation methods
- Drive continuous improvement projects aligned with corporate quality goals and industry standards.
- Program new installations of automation, machinery, material handling, and robotics.
- Reprogram equipment for engineering changes and improvements.
- Update program backups for machinery and automation.
- Use Vis Plant monitoring software to review cycle times of automation, review and follow up automation projects and installations.
- Update program equipment for engineering changes and improvements and program backups for machinery and automation.
- Assist in training manufacturing personnel and plant electricians.
- Troubleshoot PLC, robot, and other automation problems.
- Read and modify electrical prints and schematics, Auto CAD.
- Contribute to risk assessments and evaluate equipment safety.
- Communicate effectively with hourly team members, leaders, business partners and customers.
Minimum Requirements
Education:
College Diploma or equivalent. (Successful candidates will be required to provide proof of degree completion for the highest level of education attained. If the degree was obtained from a school outside of Canada, an Education Credential Assessment report showing Canadian equivalency is also required.)
Experience:
- Minimum 1 year experience as an Electrician, Technician or Technologist.
- Minimum 2 years of Controls Engineering experience.
- Able to work all shifts and hours, including nights and weekends.
- Immediate and confirmed eligibility to travel to the USA for training as required.
Preferred Requirements
Education:
Bachelor's in Engineering or a related discipline. (Successful candidates will be required to provide proof of degree completion for the highest level of education attained. If the degree was obtained from a school outside of Canada, an Education Credential Assessment report showing Canadian equivalency is also required.)
Experience:
Familiar with PLC/CNC (Siemens/ Allen-Bradley), VFD, Servo, Profinet, ABB and FANUC Robots.
Allen Bradley Panel View use/programming AB Servo and AB VFD drives.
Experience with conveyor system programming and overhead Gantry.
Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma experience.
Lean Tools – 5S, Kanban, Poka-Yoke, Value Stream Mapping experience.
Familiarity with VFD's, Servo Drives, Armor starts, encoders, network/ethernet.
Demonstrated ability to read blueprints, modify electrical schematics and use AutoCAD.
Ability to troubleshoot equipment and continuously evaluate for process improvements.
Understanding of 8D, FMEA, and DMAIC processes.
Familiar with TQM and Kaizen methods.
Knowledge of simulation modeling and visual factory management preferred.
Understanding of networking to include DH+, Ethernet and remote IO.
Prior work experience in unionized manufacturing environment.
