Lead Essential Infrastructure that Serves Our Community

The City of Brockville is seeking a Supervisor of Wastewater Systems to join our Engineering and Infrastructure team. Reporting to the Director of Engineering and Infrastructure, this leadership role is responsible for managing the efficient, safe, and complaint operation of the City's wastewater treatment plant.

You'll play a key role in ensuring that essential wastewater systems meet regulatory standards, operate reliably, and support the health and safety of the Brockville community.

What You'll Do

As the Supervisor of Wastewater Systems, you will

Leadership & Operations

  • Oversee the daily operation and maintenance of the City's wastewater treatment and collection systems
  • Plan, schedule, coordinate, and implement all division projects and maintenance activities.
  • Ensure compliance with all legislation and liaise with the Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks (MOECP) and other regulatory bodies.
  • Act as ORO (Overall Responsible Operator) as required.

Regulatory & Technical Oversight

  • Prepare and submit all required reports, data, and permits to meet provincial and federal legislation.
  • Maintain Environmental Compliance Approvals and Quality Management documentation.
  • Respond to emergencies, spills, and operational issues to ensure continuity of service.

People & Financial Management

  • Supervise unionized and non-union staff, including hiring, training, performance evaluation and development.
  • Develop and manage operational and capital budgets.
  • Oversee contracts, work orders and contractor performance.

Collaboration & Public Service

  • Investigate and respond to public and internal inquiries.
  • Liaise with staff, Council, consultants, and the community on wastewater system matters.
  • Prepare reports and presentations for Council and Committees as required.

What You Bring

  • Three (3) year post-secondary diploma in Civil Engineering, Environmental Services, or related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
  • MOECP Class IV Wastewater Treatment License and Class III Wastewater Treatment Collective License.
  • Five (5) years of supervisory experience within a unionized wastewater or water system.
  • Strong knowledge of all applicable legislation, including the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act and Safe Drinking Water Act.
  • Proven leadership and decision-making skills.
  • Experience in budget preparation, contract management, and project oversight.
  • Advanced computer proficiency (Microsoft Office, GIS, database and work management systems).
  • Valid Class G driver's licence.
