Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Cook to join our team at Happy Nest Daycare. The ideal candidate will play a key role in preparing nutritious, balanced meals and snacks for the children in our care. This role requires an individual who is committed to maintaining high food safety standards, providing healthy meals, and contributing to a positive and inclusive environment for both children and staff.
Duties
- Meal Preparation: Plan, prepare and serve nutritious meals and snacks for children aged infant to kindergarten, adhering to Canada's food Guide.
- Prepare healthy, age-appropriate meals and snacks for children, following dietary guidelines and any food allergy considerations.
- Ensure meals meet the nutritional needs of the children in accordance with the daycare's food policies and Alberta Child Care regulations.
- Manage food storage, preparation, and handling to ensure food safety and minimize waste.
- Monitor the cleanliness and maintenance of the kitchen and dining areas, ensuring high standards of hygiene.
- Work closely with the daycare team to accommodate special dietary requirements or allergies, ensuring all children have safe and nutritious meals.
- Maintain records of food inventory and meal preparation for reporting purposes.
- Foster positive relationships with children by encouraging family-style meals and positive eating habits.
- Collaborate with staff to integrate food-related learning into the children's daily activities.
- Ensure compliance with all Alberta Health and Safety regulations regarding food handling, preparation, and storage.
- Menu Planning: Collaborate with the director to develop monthly menus that promote healthy eating habits.
- Provide feedback on meal improvements based on children's preferences and dietary restrictions.
Qualifications:
- Education: Completion of a food safety training course approved by AHS (ex: Food Handler Certificate)
- Criminal Record Check.
- Experience: Previous experience as a cook, preferably in a childcare or similar setting
- Knowledge: Familiarity with nutrition guidelines for young children and experience accommodating allergies or dietary restrictions
- Skills: Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Attributes: A positive attitude, teamwork skills, and a genuine passion for supporting children's health and development.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $18.00-$22.00 per hour
