JOB SUMMARY

Providence Living is a non-profit Catholic-sponsored health care organization focused on long-term care, assisted living, housing, and other community services to support residents and their family members. The Spiritual Health Coordinator leads and develops spiritual care and mission effectiveness programs. Works closely with Managers and caregivers in the support and counselling of residents, their loved ones, and staff members.

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Coordinates Spiritual Health services of the Cooper Place and Central City Lodge. Under the direction of the Executive Director the provision of Spiritual Health according to the Mission, Philosophy and Objectives of Providence Living by:

  • Providing regular support to residents, families, and staff.

  • Coordinating the local community spiritual and religious leaders (ie. priests, rabbis, elders, etc.) in relation to the care of their member.

  • Coordinating spiritual and religious rituals and services and memorial services.

  • Orientating new staff to the role of Spiritual Health.

  • Facilitating and/or supporting post-crisis support groups for staff on an as needed basis.

  • Providing in-service programs and short-term counselling for staff who request this service according to need and workload. Refers staff to EAP as needed.

  • Counselling outpatients according to need and workload.

  • Coordinating the ongoing development and maintenance of the volunteer visitors' program

  • Promoting good public relations on an on-going basis as necessary.

  • Develop and maintain a quality assurance program for spiritual health care services, including workload statistics for submission to CIHI (Canadian Institute for Health Information).

  • Develops and maintains initiatives aimed at demonstrating appreciation and support of employees.

  • Coordinates the development of the annual operational plan for the Spiritual Health Department for the approval by the Senior Operations Leader.

  • All staff have a responsibility to remain aware of and report any risks or safety concerns promptly, and to follow any policies or procedures instituted to mitigate these risks. All staff have a part to play in preventing adverse events and in promoting safety for patients and staff. It is the responsibility of all staff to be aware of and adhere to all policies and procedures, including those that relate to patient safety, staff safety and risk management.

POSITION SPECIFICATIONS:

Education & Experience

  • One Advanced Unit of CPE is required, or an agreement to seek certification at this level.
  • Certification as a Specialist with The Canadian Association for Spiritual Care (CASC) is preferred.
  • Membership with the Canadian Association for Spiritual Care required.
  • A bachelor's degree in theology or equivalent is required; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • A minimum of three years' experience in the provision of spiritual health care in a healthcare environment. Catholic healthcare experience is an asset.
