The Data Scientist is a strategic problem solver and critical thinker, skilled at leading end-to-end data science initiatives and uncovering hidden opportunities within complex datasets. Partnering closely with business stakeholders, this individual defines problems, shapes solution strategies, and drives execution with small, focused project teams.
From concept to deployment, the Data Scientist transforms ideas into scalable data products, collaborating with technology teams and product managers to ensure seamless implementation. They will lead high-impact analytics workstreams, tackling the most challenging problems across Product functions—including merchandising, merchandise planning, product development and design—to deliver insights and data products that directly influence business outcomes.
a day in the life
- Lead end-to-end data science projects: identify opportunities, define problems, prototype solutions, and deploy data products.
- Rapidly convert business problems into agentic AI prototypes, integrating reasoning, automation, and tool use.
- Help build and fine-tune domain-specific LLMs and agentic AI solutions that deliver real business impact. Collaborate directly with stakeholders to translate problems into smart automation workflows.
- Mine and analyze product, sales, and assortment, product attributes and guest data to uncover insights and drive merchandising/planning improvements.
- Apply statistical, ML, and quantitative methods with skills in data preprocessing, feature engineering, model selection and model evaluation.
- Build maintainable Python applications and reusable ML pipelines for automation and scalable deployment.
- Act as both technical expert and product owner, collaborating with stakeholders to align solutions with business strategy.
- Collaborate with Data Engineering and ML Engineering teams to ensure data quality, scalable infrastructure, and seamless deployment of models into production.
- Visualize and communicate results clearly to senior leadership through interactive dashboards and presentations.
qualifications
- Academic background in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related fields.
- 3-5+ years in data science, ideally in retail/apparel, with proven ability to prototype quickly and iterate fast.
- 3+ years of experience in Python (NumPy, Pandas, PySpark) and ML frameworks (scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch).
- 1+ year of experience with LLMs, LangChain/LangGraph, vector databases, RAG techniques, and agentic AI workflows.
- Strong SQL/Excel skills and ability to adopt new analytic tools rapidly.
- Demonstrated success in bridging technical and product ownership roles, translating business needs into analytical/AI solutions.
- Collaboration with Data Engineering and ML Engineering teams to deploy models into production.
- Excellent communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with strong problem-solving skills and drive to master emerging AI paradigms.

compensation and benefits package
lululemon's compensation offerings are grounded in a pay-for-performance philosophy that recognizes exceptional individual and team performance. The typical hiring range for this position is from $123, ,100 annually; the base pay offered is based on market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and internal equity. As part of our total rewards offering, permanent employees in this position may be eligible for our competitive annual bonus program, subject to program eligibility requirements.
